I have a friend who has been offering to watch our 3 year old so we can have a date night. This weekend is our anniversary, so I asked her if I could take her up on it so we could go to dinner. I offered to pay her, which she adamantly refused, but I would like to give her something to show my appreciation. I was thinking about getting her a $50 gift card to White House/Black Market (she loves to shop there). Would this be tacky? Should I get a bigger amount? We've never had someone outside of family babysit, so I'm not really sure what is appropriate.
Re: Pay for babysitter/friend ?
How about picking up the tab next time you two to go for dinner?
Really, if she's offered several times she probably *wants* to spend time with your little one. If you really want to get her a gift card I would do a lesser amount, more as a token of appreciation -- $50 is outright paying her to babysit, which she refused.
