Anyone have an odd or unusual fear?

I am afraid that I won't know when I go into labor and by the time I realize it, I will be having the baby at home!

Re: Anyone have an odd or unusual fear?

  • They say your second labor is faster than the first, so im also scared that i wont make it to the hospital in time

Im also scared that my mom (who lives 6hrs away) wont make it in time, even tho her boss said she can leave as soon as i call her and confirm that im in labor

And im scared Dh will pass out due to the sights and smells of afterbith lol

  • hmmm...I don't know if it's considered unusual, but here's my fear.....

That the friends I have lined up to watch our two boys, will not be able to help out (for one reason or another) and DH will miss the birth of our third son.

  • I'm afraid of clowns.  Big Smile

OH, if you mean pregnancy related fears, here's a really silly one.  I had a dream early on that the baby came out looking like an alien.  Now, I am really scared he is going to be born with this BIG head, huge, weird eyes and look completely otherworldly.  In my dream, I was complaining (?!) to my mom about how weird he looked, and my mom was trying to reassure me by saying "But his EYES are so STRIKING!"  and I said, "Mom, his brother is cute and look at him -- He's scary looking!"  LoL - So now I wonder what my subconscious was trying to prepare me for?!

  • IV's!

Stupid I know!  I apparently have very small veins and when I get one, it hurts so bad.  The last time it hurt worse than labor and is one of my main reasons for not wanting to get an epi.  Not that it matters though, because they have to put one in because of emergencies.

I am terrified of the pain from the IV, not the labor...go figure.

  • I have a fear of getting a csection.. Or vaginal tearing. I didnt tear with DD. Ive never had stitches or surgery and the idea puts my stomach in knots.
  • I have a full-on phobia at the idea of a c-section. There is absolutly nothing in the world that scares me as much as the idea of having one. Literally. I would rather be shot at than have a c-section (and I say this as a combat vet, who has been shot at, and DID NOT LIKE IT).

I know it's stupid. But I can't help it. I am afraid that if I did need one they would have to put me completely out, because I will lose it. To add to it, DH is going to be gone. My mother lives 3 hours away. My mother in law lives an hour and a half away. I have a history of 1-2 hour labors. If I needed an emergency c-section, it is highly likely that I would be going in with NO support person. I am looking at hiring a doula, but I haven't found the right one yet.

  • I'll jump on the c/s bandwagon. When I look at my bump all I see are blue veins running all across my belly. Now, if I were to get a c/s wouldn't the doctor cut through these veins and I would bleed out? Well, that's what I think about having one. I know it's not the likely case but still, that thought alone freaks me out.

I also fear my baby won't be healthy when she's born. I fear she'll spend a few days in the NICU. Not sure why I have this fear but I just think because I'm having a fairly easy pregnancy (compared to most) something will be wrong with my outside baby.

  • I am afraid I will not know how to take care of him.  I have had PLENTY of babysitting experience.  I pretty much raised my 3 younger cousins at the age of 20 while my aunt and uncle worked.  But I freak out thinking I wont be able to take care of my own son!

And non pregnancy related....I am seriously afraid of fish! I cant even go into the fish section of the pet store, my lungs tighten up and I can't breathe!

  • I am afraid of labor. Everything is just so unpredictable, and the fear of the unknown runs rampant with me.

    Baby #3- ????? (ttc soon)

  • Have you ever had a butterfly needle to start an IV?  Or maybe a childs needle? I found the butterfly needle to be much more gentle and still gets the IV going - something to ask the nurse/dr.

  • Exactly 2 years ago this past Tuesday - I had a Ruptured Ectopic (ie: pregnancy got stuck in one tube and after 2 rounds of methotrexate, it eventually exploded).  I had blood transfusions & emergency surgery to remove the tube and because a ruptured ectopic is life threatening, they opted to do my surgery with a full on incision (think c-section) - no cute tiny little incision beside my belly button deal.

I am PETRIFIED that this incision (which is two years old) will BUST open during delivery... And, if I end up with a c-section for whatever reason - I'm PETRIFIED they will go through that same incision and make it look worse than it already does.  :-(

After those fears, next up would be being knocked out for a c-section and completely missing the "birth" of my girl...

  • I'm afraid of going to hospital too early and being sent home. I don't know why, but I feel like I would be humilitated.

  • I fear when all is said and done (husband is back to work....the novelty of the baby has worn off...and it is just the baby and I), I will fall into a deep depression/anxiety. I have had the most beautiful/calm/clear minded pregnancy....I am fearful my mental state will be taking over in a negative way.

I will have to ask about that.  They have never offered anything else.  Thanks for the suggestions!

  • I'm afraid of losing my baby :( though everything has been fineeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, it's just my mom had 2 stillbirths that were girls....I keep telling myself that was like 40 years ago or more (they were older than me) and that the docs now test for everything :) it didn't help though when my mom said (not now, but maybe 1st and 2nd trimester) that I shouldn't buy anything for the baby until I bring him/her home...

That's my fear.....my one true main one :(
