Baby Showers

Give me your best and worst baby shower games

I want to know what games people like and which ones people hate to play at baby showers.  My only idea so far is to maybe do a "name that baby" type thing- have baby pictures of celebrities plus the MTB displayed and people have to guess who each baby is (from a list of names).  The person with the most correct answers gets a prize.

  • Ugh!  I don't think I can think of any good ones.

Bad though---Def. the "how big is mom's tummy" ones. I hate those!

  • I hate to play the melted candy bar. There was another game I played at a shower for my sister where little toy babies were frozen in ice cubes. You had to get it to melt without using your hands and then yell, "My water broke." That was completely mortifing.

  • For my sister's shower, we played a game where you had to match the celebrity with their baby's name. (ie. Victoria Beckham--Harper Seven).  And at my other sister's shower, we matched the kids name to the television sitcom (ie. DJ, Stephanie, & Michelle--Full House)  I came up with both of these b/c I was trying to think of something different that isn't played over and over at every shower.

  • I also like the Price is Right game.  We also did this for my sis.  It doubled as a game and a gift for MTB, since she kept all the baby supplies.  :)

I did this at a shower I threw for a friend, but I added guess the gender or the baby.

I love this idea, or the one w/ the celebrity baby pictures.

I recently realized why I've always been a "hater" of most shower games (at least in relation to baby showers).  The games are all geared around baby stuff - which on one hand, well "duh", but at the same time, if you aren't a mom and don't deal w/ babies - a lot of these games just.aren't.enjoyable.

I remember a game where a baby item was in a brown paper bag.  There were probably 20 bags total.  They passed them around, you had to feel the item, and then guess what you thought it was.

Now, I'd probably love the game because I know what most of that stuff is.  But at the time, I got like maybe 5 of the things right, and... it kind of sucked.

That's why I love the celebrity geared ones - I think that creates a more even playing field for all the guests!

We did this at my shower, but only the guys guessed. The hostess printed out pictures and product descriptions for 5 or 6 baby items (crib, formula, safety gate...I don't remember what else) from the internet. The guys had no clue, for the most part, so it was really funny.

  • People have generally liked Price is Right with baby items at the showers I've hosted (some even got pretty cutthroat about it!), and it's a good way to give the MTB some little baby essentials that she may not have put on her registry.

I passionately hate the candy bars in diapers game.  It's gross, it focuses on one of the least pleasant aspects of parenting, and I can only imagine what kind of chemicals are involved in a microwaved disposable diaper.

  • We did:

-Guess how many q-tips are in the baby bottle

    -Baby-related word scramble

-Match the language to the translation of the word "baby"

  • I like the Price is Right game also.

At my cousins shower, we took a clear plastic jar that had a duck on the lid (it was on sale in the Easter decorations) and filled it with cotton balls.  The ladies had to guess how many cotton balls were in the jar.  Easy and not embarrassing at all.  If I were to do it again, I would probably have filled it with baby q-tis.

  • I hate the clothes pin/ safety pin game, where they give you a word you cannot say.  If you say the word whoever catches you get the pin and whoever has the most wins.  This game is rowdy and out of control.

  • One of the most fun ones was when the mom to be is opening up her shower gifts someone stands by her and writes down the random things she says and then at the end you read them and they are supposed to be the things that she said to the daddy the night the baby was made lol.   My friend had some pretty hilarious ones, like, I didn't know they came in this size and could this be any shorter? lol more of a dirty game but silly non-the less.

  • Any game that involves food (diapers with candybar melted in it or tasting baby food without labels or chugging anything out of a baby bottle) - gross...all of them.

I like the Price is Right, name what is in the bag (they used new adult socks), remember what is on the tray (filled with baby items) and the one that was my absolute favorite (I saw on here a long time ago) was called a Pair of Bloomers.

There was a gift wrapped many, many times with different colored/patterned tissue paper.  Music was started and the gift was passed from one guest to the next over and over...like hot potato.  When the music stopped the person that had it took off one layer of tissue.  Then it started again and when the last piece of tissue was taken off that person opened the box.  At the beginning of the game the guests were told that inside was a pair of bloomers and the one that opened it at the end of the game had to wear the bloomers for the rest of the shower.  Well, of course when everyone heard bloomers they were thinking of underwear from like 1850 or something like that.  Turns out that inside was a wrist corsage made with two flowers (bloomers).  It was done at the beginning of the shower and was quite an ice breaker.  I read about it on here and have done it at least 3 times at showers I've hosted.  All the guests loved it.  Just have to make sure you pack the corsage really well because the box gets thrown around a bit.  lol

  • The best game I played was a worksheet with questions and all the answers were candy like what do you give the baby and the answer was Hershey Kisses.  Whoever got the most right, got to pick out their favorite type of candy (they had all diffferent types of candy answers available) and they kept letting guests pick out candy until it was all gone.  This way a lot of guests got a prize and even though candy is inexpensive everyone likes candy.

  • I always disliked the "taste the baby food" games. Yuck!

At my shower, we only had one game- baby gift bingo. Basically, bingo cards were passed out and guests wrote down items they thought I would receive (they had a freebie with their own gift). Whoever got bingo first got a gift card. Everyone liked it!

  • I agree with PP's on the price is right game! Also, you could do jeopardy! I have done this at a few showers, and it has always been fun! Use categories like pregnancy, labor, infant, toddler, ect.
  • The best game I've played at a baby shower was Registry Bingo while the MTB was opening gifts. It's an easy, passive game that people can play or not play during what is sometimes a long, drawn out process of opening gifts. It was a larger shower, so it was appreciated.
