Should I be worried ? (feeding related)

After reading some post of about of feeding I'm a bit worried.

My LO feeds on demand (around 2 hours) except at night where he feeds around 8pm and then at 1am, 4am. He only feeds for about 10 minutes total sometimes even less. Anything more then 10 minutes he spits up.

We started working on using a bottle since I will be going back to work and he has only ever eaten about 1 oz every 2 hours.

Is he getting enough? He will be 3 months Monday. I am wondering if its something I should see my LC  about

  • It doesn't sound like a lot to me. But not awful. I think babies can be snackers so maybe try to stretch the amount of time between feedings and give a little more. FWID DD spit up all the time! But it always looks like more than it is. HTH!

  • my lo just turned 3 months n shes still a snacker, sometimes its 4 oz sometimes its 2 oz, during the night she will only eat 2 oz. the doc said as long as she is gaining and not losing weight that she should be fine .

  • I would look at how much weight he is gaining since some babies are most efficient at the breast. If he is gaining appropriately then he should be getting enough. As for only taking an ounce with the bottle he probably is just taking in enough to take the edge off the hunger so he can hold out for the breast. If you are going back to work I would make sure to keep working on the bottle so he'll be used to it better by daycare, maybe have someone else feed him the bottle while you are gone so he doesn't see the real thing.
