If anyone here knows... I just found myself wondering last night after talking to DH about his CW who is having a planned repeat C in three weeks but she has been having really strong, sporadic contractions right here recently.
If she goes into labor before her planned section, do they just let her go ahead and have a vaginal birth? Or it might be different under her circumstances because her first birth was a section, too (despite all the recent evidence supporting VBAC).
However, say someone is having a planned c-section for a completely non-medical reason (they don't want to "wreck" their vag; something really stupid but the doc goes along with it, lol) and they go into labor before then. Do doctors typically go ahead with the c-section anyway according to Mom's birth plan? Or let her deliver vaginally? Or does it depend on the doctor? Or do they do what the mom wants? I don't even know why I ask this... just got to wondering, lol.

Re: Totally random question about planned c-sections
In *general* I think that if someone with a scheduled c/s goes into labor beforehand, they show up at the hospital for a c/s.
I guess the exception would be if she was on the fence about a VBAC and decided last minute she wanted to go for it, and the OB/hospital was supportive of VBAC. Or if she shows up pushing in order to get around a VBAC ban. But usually it will just get you bumped to the front of the c/s line.
My situation was similar- LO was breech so a c/s was going to happen, but my OB was supportive of me waiting until I went into labor to go to the hospital.
My friend was scheduled for a c-section last week. Her water broke and she went into labor the night before. She showed up at the hospital at like 2 AM, and they sectioned her.
I don't know if she could have asked to VBAC at that point and chose not to, or if she wanted the c-sec.

When I worked on OB, if they had a section scheduled, they had a section (except for the one lady who showed up pushing...we didn't even manage to get her to the floor; baby was born in the ER waiting room, caught by an aide!)
The main reason for always doing the section was that unless her doc was the one on call, we had no idea why the mother had been scheduled for a c-section. We could ask her, but in reality the mothers "They said the baby was really big" might actually be "They said the baby was big so I freaked out and asked for a c-section."
