XP: My Breast Friend or Boppy

Hi! I looked back a few pages and didn't see any other posts about this (I assumed it would be a hot topic). I also posted this on my month board.

Which breastfeeding pillow do most of y'all recommend? If you had to choose between the My Breast Friend and Boppy which would you choose and why?

Any help is greatly appreciated. :-)

  • My Breast Friend 100%! I have both and after using the MBF I find the boppy totally useless for breastfeeding. LOVE it and recommend it as my #1 baby product to new moms. Makes it SO easy to have your hands available to work on latch and stuff because it can hold your baby at exactly the right place.

This! I'm using mine now. :)

  • I have a Boppy and I hate it. I think a regular pillow is just as useful. It has a weird, unantural shape. I wish I had bought a Breast Friend instead. (will probably buy one soon)

  • I LOVE my Boppy!  DD lived on it until she was about 8 weeks old, and I used it for every nursing session after that until she was almost 11 months old!  I even insisted that we drag it with us for a one day stay in Canada when she was 6 months old (and it was totally worth it!  I just brought it out of storage today for DD#2 and am so happy to be using it again.

From all the other posts it sounds like its a personal thing- if you know people with both maybe you could try 'em out and find out which you prefer.

My Brest Friend all the way. If she falls asleep nursing, I just carry her on the 'tray' it makes, and it's just a very small transfer to the crib. Can also easily get up and have her continue to nurse to find a phone, get some water... you name it.

  • Thank you!!

Sounds like My Breast Friend is the way to go for BF. I'm considering adding the Boppy too as a lot of people have said the Boppy is good for other things (helping baby sit up, etc.).

  • I have the MBF upstairs, and the Boppy downstairs.  The MBF is definitely better for hands free.  The boppy company makes an infant wedge that can help.  I like to use it when I'm on the computer and she can nurse sort of hands free- but not as easily as the MBF.  We use the boppy for positioning her a lot, too.

  • I have both now.  I started with the boppy but prefer the brest friend after using it at the LC center I went to for a consult.  It was way more comfortable and much more supportive when feeding the baby.  If I did it over again, I'd register for it instead of the boppy.

  • Ugh I can't stand my Boppy. It's better than nothing at all, but it really isn't great. I've never tried the My Breast Friend, but it's #1 on my list of items to buy for baby #2 just based on recommendations on here. At this point, he's latched on pretty well and we're all set, so I don't want to spend the money on the MBF. But next time around, I will.

  • I use both depending on where I am in the house and what position I am nursing in.

  • I use them both for different things.  I love the My Breast Friend for the couch/big chair and the boppy for my glider (the my breast friend doesn't fit very well in the glider).

  • My Brest Friend. I strated with the boppy and found it way too soft. Got the Brest Friend and it's a world of difference...
  • We have the Brest Friend and the Luna Lullaby pillow.  Our lactation consultation had me use the Luna pillow at her office and it seemed to work better for us in getting good positioning (we're using footbal hold). The down side is that its pretty big and not handsfree, but it's really soft and LO loves being propped up on it.  DH also uses it to give her a bottle.   That being said, I wish the Brest Friend worked for us--it would be nice to easily transfer after feeding on the  "tray."

  • As a PP said, the boppy is great in the glider but anywhere else I sometimes need to grab another pillow to stick under it. I've heard that the boppy works better for people with long torsos (me) and the breast friend for people with shorter torsos, but after reading PPs I really want to try out the breast friend. The only time I tried to try it out, I was super pg and it wouldn't fit around my huge belly!
  • I love the Boppy for sitting Siena up next to me on the couch, but the Brest Friend is the BEST for nursing. I wish I had it all along, but I didn't buy it till 5 weeks or so. It makes nursing SO much easier!!!

  • I don't there's a universal answer to this question: I think it depends more on stature and breast size.  I have a My Breast Friend pillow and it doesn't work for us.  I am short (not quite 5'1"), and I am large on top, such that I hang low.  The MBF is a very firm foam, so my LO doesn't sink into it at all--so she ends up with her mouth too high and my nipple too low.  If you have a friend with a baby and either one of the pillows, I'd suggest trying the pillow and using their baby to see where everything aligns and go from there.

I had the Boppy with #1, I bought a Brest Friened for #2. I love how it attaches around you and I found the Boppy kinda useless as I still needed additional support.

  • If I had to pick just one, I would say MBF, bc Boppy sucks for the first weeks.  However, I like starting with MBF then switching to Boppy.  You could do that for cheaper than one new one if you bought both used.

I agree with this. I had both but sold the Brestfriend on craigslist b/c I didn't like it at all. I LOVED my Boppy! I'm 5'4", have a short torso and large F/G breasts.

  • Wow! Y'all are great. Thanks again for all the feedback Big Smile
