Baby Nurse

I am considering hiring a live-in baby nurse for the first two weeks post delivery in November. Please let me know if you have any recommendations.  Thanks!

Re: Baby Nurse

  • Seriously?

Honestly, its not that bad.  Save your money.  Don't let people prey on your fears to get into your wallet unless you have some sort of physical disability and cannot safely care for the baby.

That is my recommendation.  Its scary and hard but you can do it because its also perfect and wonderful.

  • We had a night nurse (10 p.m. till 6 a.m.) for Wills five nights a week.  Once DH went back to work, I was on my own from 7:30-5:30 with an 11 month old and a newborn.  Unless I'd had a decent night's sleep, there was no way in the world I was going to make it through the day.

I don't know that I'd hire a live-in unless I had triplets or some major complications from delivery or something along those lines, but I loved our night nurse.  Those eight hours of sleep kept both DH and me sane!

We used Happy Baby Solutions.  I'd recommend our specific nurse, but unfortunately she passed away.

OK seriously how do you know if this person isn't having twins or more?  If she wants to pay for help that is what keeps others employed in this economy.  Let her hire someone if she wants.

I don't know her circumstances but I was trying to be encouraging.  It would just be a disappointment to me if I was not the one doing the work for the baby unless I just couldn't - which I did state.  I don't know anybody with twins that had a nurse with the exception of my friend whose babies were born at 23 weeks and were sent home from NICU on oxygen with multiple special needs.

I don't have any recommendations, but a former coworker and his wife had a night nurse for two weeks after the birth of their second child.  He said it was money well spent.
  • Have you thought about a post partum doula?

    Good luck.

Eye.Roll. She didn't as you to judge her choice. It isn't always perfect and wonderful. Unless she is paying with your debit card this answer is totally unhelpful.

    I agree about a post-partum doula.

This might be a good option.  If I can afford it then, we might consider doing this for number #2 when the time comes.  I would love someone to be there just at night for a few weeks.  The first few weeks at home are awesome but I think I would have enjoyed them even more if I had some sleep!  Best of luck and congratulations!
