Nail biting

DS has been nail biting for about a month. He's been gnawing at them until he they're down to the nail beds. He also gives himself hangnails. Not awesome. I just gave him a "manicure" with a top coat of nail biting deterrent. Has anyone else been down this road? Advice?

Re: Nail biting

  • DD bites her nails. I've tried doing manicures and giving incentives not to bite, but they haven't worked. They'll work for about a week before she starts up again. I brought it up with her pedi and she told me to just let her be. That some children go through this phase and she'll eventually grow out it.     I'm hoping this will be the case. But until then, when I notice her biting I just say, "fingers out of your mouth" or "no biting your nails" . Sort of like when she was potty training and I had "pee pee / poo poo on the potty" on repeat a hundred times a day. :)  Good luck!

  • DD used to bite her nails down so far she'd bleed.  She finally stopped when I used the nail polish that tastes bad.
