Umm how old are you? You stated you were on your mother's insurance still which leads me to believe you are 23ish. Seeing as how you have an older child, I would assume you've been down the insurance road before, which makes you even more of a fvcking idiot. Maybe you should quit popping out kids if you know you're going to have problems getting them covered by insurance you twatwaffle.

Also, I would seriously consider divorce. Your husband sounds like a controlling piece of scum.

Maybe the laws are different depending on the state, but once I was married I was not able to be on my parents insurance. So now I'm wondering if she's even married?

I think the new insurance laws allow coverage to 26 despite student or marital status... Maybe I misheard that, though.

Frankly I think the whole thing is made up. She didn't know what she was talking about, and then got busted. Again. When she gets busted for being an idiot and tries to backpeddle, but she can't b/c the stories don't add up and make zero sense.

I think she waited too long to get her kid on the insurance, then whens he got busted made up some lamesauce story without understanding what she was saying isn't possible. Then she pretended to be her husband and further made up shiit, thinking then we would feel bad. What she doesn't understand is that we know she is full of shiit and that we don't feel bad for calling her on it.

The rules changed at the beginning of this year, iirc. A married child can be on a parent's insurance up until age 26, but her spouse and kids cannot. I think the kids can be on the grandparent's if they live with them and are dependents. And based on her screen name, I'm guessing she's 23 or 24

Wow, I'm all for health insurance but frankly if you are old enough to be married you are old enough to take care of your health insurance. Maybe I'm just a hardazz because I didn't get to take advantage of this rule.

This. Because a lot of college grads are taking sh!tty jobs in this economy. I don't know how I feel about the married thing, but it's a bit of a relief for graduates I think. I know my dad's insurance covered me in grad school until I got married and that was a huge weight off my shoulders.
I think it's across all states and policies as part of the health care initiative passed by congress.

Ok thank you. When I first started side-eyeing her it was something I saw on the third tri board. I may have been late 2nd tri at the time but I didn't think she was THAT far ahead of me. Last night I thought I was in a time warp or something.

The rule about non-student children being on their parents' health insurance took effect about 10 seconds after I was dropped from my dad's plan b'c of graduating. I was ticked, because I could've kept on his plan and DH could've kept on his families (b'c the marital status thing didnt matter) for a few years until we got good insurance of our own. It would've saved a LOT of headaches and bullshiit dealing with trying to buy my own insurance and get it to actually cover what it said it would (I'm still bitter about that)

Unless the grandparents adopt the grandchild or have temporary legal guardianship the grandchildren can not be added to the insurance policy.

Actually, they simply need to be able to claim them on their taxes. Even if you're married, there are times when your parents can claim you on their taxes, and in those situations they can also claim the grandkids and have them on their insurance. Things have changed a lot in the last few years.

Actually, they simply need to be able to claim them on their taxes. Even if you're married, there are times when your parents can claim you on their taxes, and in those situations they can also claim the grandkids and have them on their insurance. Things have changed a lot in the last few years.

*Shrug* when my son was born I was technically my parents dependent and stayed on their insurance because they had already met their maximums and the birth was free. They told me the only way I could add my son was to give my parents temporary guardianship.
