Babies on the Brain

The queso question has been asked on my month board

I think the best part is the first person to respond commiserates with the OP that not only will they not get to eat queso for the next eight months, but they can't have blue cheese or feta either. ::giggles::

I responded that not only did I eat queso this last weekend, I had soft serve for dessert as well. I'm already a horrible mother.

  • I missed the queso memo. And soft serve. Whats the gist?

  • You are not supposed to eat soft unpasteurized cheeses (i.e. brie) when pregnant, but people who don't use their brains don't realize they can eat pasteurized soft cheeses. They also lump queso in the soft cheese category because it's soft and melty which makes it even more hilarious to me.

Also, dirty soft serve machines have a slim chance of carrying listeria so the same people avoid soft serve as well.

  • My SIL avoided all "soft" cheeses including feta and bottled blue cheese dressing during her pregnancy "because you just DON'T want to take that risk!!!". It was all I could do to not laugh in her face when she said she skipped the Greek salad at a baby shower because the feta could be dangerous.

  • No lie- I'm headed to Publix thanks to this post.

Well I needed basic groceries (haven't been home for three weeks- the cupboards are bare) in the first place but now there will be some tostitos and queso.

Fuuck TTC - I'm moving on.

"Ew. I've read all of two posts from you, and you stink like rotting garbage."
  • I was a super paranoid person, and skipped most of the no-nos. I even heated up my deli meat (gag), though I felt stupid doing it.

But the cheese thing is just so idiotic; you would be hard pressed to find non-pasturized cheese in most American grocery stores and restaurants (I'm betting Canada as well). As most posters here on TB are living in those countries, I just have to shake my head.

The confusion over queso - as in the delicious yellow dip that bears no resemblance to actual cheese - and imported queso blanco takes it to a new level. Melted =/= soft, and thinking it does...yeah.

  • Apparently I was trying to kill my baby by eating a bagel with cream cheese.

    People are so stupid.
