S/O wanting another one...

Is it wrong of me to really REALLY want a girl the second time around?  I know that I would be happy even if it was another boy, but I would love to experience having a girl.

Anyone else want a specific sex next time?  Anyone already have a second and like to tell your story of finding out the sex of your second...were you happy, a little disappointed, etc?

Re: S/O wanting another one...

  • I'm ok with having either as a second child. I always said that I wanted one of each. DH isn't sure if he would want another girl or if he would like to have a boy. Honestly, we would both be happy with whatever it is.

I really really really wanted a girl. I've never seen myself without a girl. Andrew didn't care either way. Since this was our last one, we tried for a girl (I figured it couldn't hurt). I was very happy to find out we were having a girl :))

How did you do this? Shettles?

I'm curious about Shettles too, does it work?  I have two girls and was hoping for a boy this time.  We weren't actually trying to get pregnant but I know when I ovulated so, if the Shettles method works, I had perfect timing for another girl!  I guess we'll see at my a/s in a couple weeks!

  • I also would like one of each so in that sense I would like a girl, but I figure if we were to have a boy at least he would more likely be a close friend for DS.

I REALLY wanted a girl the first time.  Girls are what I knew (I have a sister, no brothers) and I wanted to be able to help her in the ways that my mom helped me.  I also wanted to help her with the frustrations that I encountered.  For example, I loved reading biographies but there were very few biographies written about women - I can remember reading about Clara Barton and Maria Tallchief and learning about Juliette Low in Girl Scouts - but I remember more being frustrated that I couldn't find more books about women.

Part of me still wants a girl as number 2, but surprisingly I'm not as disappointed to think about having another boy as I would have predicted I'd be.  I may change my mind after DH teaches DS all about fart noises, though.

  • I always saw myself with a girl, so I was so thrilled that we had DD first.  DH wanted boy a boy first so he could look out for his little sister, but he got over it.  Now that I have my little girl I am really wanting a boy next.  But if we have two girls I'll be just as happy.  I think that if I'd ended up with all boys a little part of me would have always been a little disappointed to not have a girl.

  • My first was a boy and the we wanted another boy and that's what we got. I'm not girly by any means so I would feel bad for a girl getting a tom boy of a mom. I can barely do my hair daily let alone someone elses. Also for financial reasons which I know seems silly and because I've already had one so I kind of know what to expect, although they are so different in looks and personality it doesn't seem to be the same.

  • I have 5 kids.  The first 2 were girls which was fine.  We never found out what we were having and I was surprised and happy that they were girls.  With the 3rd I really wanted a girl - I had 2 sisters so 3 girls seemed awesome to me.  I ended up with a boy which caused me a couple of twinges of disappointment and then I moved on.  I LOVE my son.  So glad I had a boy now - wish I would have been more excited when he was born.  Hoped for a boy with my 4th - got a girl but was very happy to have her.  For my 5th really hoped for a boy but knew it didn't matter (finally came to that realization on baby #4) - had a boy!  So I have 3 girls and 2 boys and love it.

I think it's perfectly fine to wish for a girl or a boy.  At the same time the most important thing is a healthy baby and whatever you have you will love them just as much as your first.

  • im 50/50 so either way ill be happy.  like you id like to have a girl to just experience it and have one of each but on the other hand id love for griff to have a lil brother.  you know, like a best friend.  plus, we can use all his old clothes lol.
  • We had a boy this time, and DH and I would both like to have a girl next time because we'd like to have one of each sex. However, we would be perfectly happy with another boy, too. We love our little boy so much, and we'll be thrilled with a girl or a boy next time.

  • I would like a boy next time so that we have one of each, but I would be happy with a girl so that E would have a sister.  Honestly, my #1 preference (after healthy) is a good sleeper....hehe.

  • I've always wanted one of each.  When I was pregnant and knew I was having a boy, I really wanted a girl as a second child.  Now that DS is here, I would still love to have a girl, but would be really happy with a house full of boys too.

  • I really wanted a boy first, so I was super happy when we found out that we were having Jackson!  The next time I would reallllly like a girl and I do think that I will be a bit disappointed if it is a boy.  Only because DH says he doesn't know if he wants 3 kids, and if the next one is a boy I definitely want to try again for a girl.

However, I do think that having 2 little boys would be super fun!  :)

I used to be a big deal.  Now I'm just old.
  • the first time around, i really wanted a girl. mostly because our family is all girls, i'm very familiar with them.. and i totally wanted to buy cute girly clothes! i have to admit, i was tad bit disappointed when i found out we were having a boy. BUT now that i've had one.. i actually think i want another boy! i love having a boy. he is so much fun, and his clothes are just as much fun to buy. i guess i assume if we have a girl, she'll be all drama and i just love how easy and lowkey he is. however, i am sure a girl can be just as mellow as a boy, that's just how i picture it. :-)
  • I'd initially hoped for a girl for reasons like others have mentioned (there are no boys in our family, they were so unfamiliar).  I also wanted a girl so that hopefully she and I could have the same amazing mother-daughter relationship that my mom and I had.  Now that I have our little boy, I can't imagine things differently.  IF we ever decide to have a second child, it'd be fun to have a daughter.  I'd love to have a girl to do, well, girly things with.  Someone to paint nails with, someone to inherit all my jewelry, someone to go prom dress shopping with.   If we were to find out we were having another boy, that'd be pretty cool too.  I know all babies/kids are different, but the idea of a brother-version of DS makes me smile.  I guess now I see how awesome little boys are, they're not so scary, lol.

  • since my husband and i started dating we talked about having 5 little girls.  so far we have one boy.  now that we have him, i can imagine more boys.   i also think it would be fun to have a girl to do girly things with and so that my husband could have his "daddy's girl".

We both wanted a girl for our second since we already had a boy. We had/have our girl name picked out from the start. All through the beginning of the pregnancy I JUST KNEW that it had to be a girl because the pregnancy was so different from DS1's. We had a gender ultrasound and found out that it was a boy and although I was initially disappointed, I wasn't too upset because we were still having a baby. We'd had two miscarriages and I just really wanted this one to be our take home baby. DH on the other hand kept telling me (even though we had ultrasounds almost every other week due to complications confirming that it was a boy each time...) that u/s's could be wrong almost until we delivered. lol.

Now I think that he's happy that we have the two boys and hopes that Ari will be as rough and into sports as DS1 and he are. We've been talking about having more and although he hasn't said it, I'm sure that he's hoping that our next will be a girl (as am I)

  • I'm really excited to have another, frankly I'd like a boy but my husband says he only produces girls... Really? LOL oh well I'll be happy with either or.
