Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Anyone out there use Similac Sensitive formula?

Right now we are using Similac Advance Formula.  But she seems to be getting fussy/gassy when she eats.  She also seems to grunt and cry when she's trying to poop. and when she does finally poop she's very happy.  so I'm curious to see if anyone out there uses Similac Sensitive or even a soy based formula?

If so - how did you know when to switch to the Sensitive brand?  Did it seem to help the baby out?

Right now I really can't tell if i should switch or not to try it to see if it helps. Does it bother the baby if you switch formula on them?

Any advice on different formula is appreciated....Thanks!

Re: Anyone out there use Similac Sensitive formula?

  • We were using a combination of BM and Enfamil Enfacare but have discovered LO has a milk/soy protein allergy so now we use Nutramigen.  We JUST started using it yesterday and he seems to tolerate feedings way better than he did before so we're hopeful we've properly diagnosed the issue and things improve for him.

  • Consult your pedi if you think she needs to be switched and they may advise you on whether or not they feel it's decessary. I switched my LO from Advanced to Sensitive cold turkey and it didn't really make a difference with him since he was a good eater to begin with. He burps a lot more easily with SS than he did with SA so we're sticking with it. If you want to switch to Soy, then DEFINITELY consult your pedi first. Switching from milk to soy based can be a little tough if not done progressively; milk-based formulas are easier to switch. If it continues to be bothersome for her, maybe you'll need to switch to another brand completely like the specific Enfamil ones for allergies.

  • DS was on Advance for quite a while but was painfully gassy and got frequent diahrea. Played around with some other formulas, eventually landing on Similac Sensitive. He's been on it a month now and doing so much better. No painful gas, no diahrea.  FWIW, we are using the liquid for now as there are less bubbles than the powder (eventually we'll switch to the powder), as well as better bottles than we had been using (using Dr. Browns and Avent bottles now), so that could have added to the success.

    Have you tried gas drops?

  • Our pediatrician recommended we switch to SS after I mentioned that our LO seemed to be more uncomfortable before and while pooping.  Switching didn't give us any problems as far as LO adapting, tho' I'm not totally sure it helps the situation. :)

But check with your pedi -- and definitely don't switch over to soy based without your ped's recommendation!

  • we switched cold turkey and it has been the best difference. It won't bother him if it's the right switch.
  • I'm glad to hear that it doesn't seem to bother anyone's LO if they switch to a different formula to try it out.  I did pick up the Similac Sensitive at the store today just in case I decided to try it....So I guess i'll try it tonight to see if it helps her.  Hopefully she will become less fussy when eating!

    This.

And one, I forgot to bring formula with me to eat while we ate lunch at DH's hospital.  The nursery gave me Similac Advance.  I gave it to DS and it was awful.  So I know the Sensitive was what was right for him.

I noticed a difference within the first day, but my pedi said to really know you have to give it a week.
