Leaning/slumping forward in carseat

Does anyone's LO do this? I wasn't too worried about it but I mentioned it to DD's daycare teacher this morning that she was sleeping in the carseat slumped forward. The daycare teacher mentioned that it could cut off her airway!!! IndifferentAny suggestions on how to avoid this/make sure it doesn't happen??

Re: Leaning/slumping forward in carseat

  • My DS does it.  I don't know how to stop him. It's not like I can reach back and put his head in place while driving.  I've even tried loosening his straps a tiny bit since it looks like he's just trying to break free, and he still does it.  It seems silly that it would cut off his airway though.  I mean our airways don't get cut off when we look down.

  • it can cut off her airway if she cant lift her head up herself - can she do that? if so, dont worry!

  • Landon does this ALL the time! And he tries to turn his head and shoulders sideways to lick the carseat!
  • for some reason, DS falls asleep like this all the time.  We always say how uncomfortable he looks, but fixing his head would wake him up!

  • Since J could hold his head up he always wants to sit up or stand up so it always looked to me like he was trying to sit up more straight in the car seat. But he's done it for a long time.

It scared me to death the first time he fell asleep that way! I looked back and he was slumped over against the harness and his chin on his chest. I reached back and gave his little arm a shake and he didnt wake up! Oh, it was terrifying but he was just asleep! I hate it that there isnt anything to keep him from doing that, because even if he is asleep and I try to adjust his head it just flops back to where it was.
