Daily Bed Rest Check-In 7/20/11 (Wed)

image

Good morning! Thanks for the well-wishes yesterday :) My vision is fine now.

MrsLoos - Congrats on passing the GTT and congrats on having a scheduled c-section date! How exciting :)

albertabride06 - I hope your appointment yesterday went well, and that you did not have to be admitted to the hospital.

presh116 - Great news about your cervix! Glad to hear there isn't any funneling.

MPB13 - I hope your heartburn has gone away! That's the worst. You've probably already tried this, but lying on your left side, slightly elevated if possible always seems to help me. As do Tums :)

cottonlily84 - SO glad to hear your 2nd cerclage is holding up well!

Today's questions: let's talk about nurseries! I realize this is something most of us can't actively work on, but it's fun to plan and daydream :)

1. Will your/does your nursery have a theme?

2. What colors did you use, or do you plan on using?

3. What is your favorite item in the nursery that you've either purchased already or plan on purchasing?

Feel free to include PIPs if you're so inclined!

Re: Daily Bed Rest Check-In 7/20/11 (Wed)

  • Hi ladies!  I'd like to join the gang if that's okay :)

I was put on moderate bed rest at home at the beginning of July, but last week thanks to protein in my urine I was confirmed with pre-eclampsia and put on hospital bed rest for the remainder of my pregnancy.  I'm 34 weeks and 4 days today, and hoping to make it to at least 36 before delivery (and not losing my mind in the process). We've had our two steroid shots to mature her lungs, and they've estimated her weight to be around 5lbs, so hopefully no matter when we deliver she'll do just fine and won't have to stay in the NICU long.

As far as the nursery goes, I was fortunate that I got to finish most of my preparations before the bed rest sentence was handed down.

    1) Ours doesn't have a set theme, we wanted to keep it kind of neutral and eclectic, but I used a lot of birds, branches, leaves, and other kind of natural motifs.

    2) When we started we weren't sure what we were having, and for a long time we thought we were having a boy (from week 13-20), but even once we found out we were having a baby girl, we kept the color scheme fairly neutral.  The walls are a turquoise-y blue.  The floors and crib are cherry wood finished.  The dresser/changing table has a wood finished top and is painted a sort of creamy beige, with turquoise knobs.  We got two cube shelves from Target in white for her books and toy baskets, and scored an amazing rug from Lowes on sale that combines all the neutral colors we used (white, cream, beige).  It's a nice subdued color palette, but it let me use lots of funky, fun colors with the sheets, toys, accessories and such!

    3) I have two, both bird related!  One is a silver glittery bird that hangs from a spring from the ceiling fan/light fixture that looks like it's flying when it bounces, and the other is the mobile I made.  I used a pattern from Spool and made several stuffed birds using bright, contrasting quilting fabrics, then painted a branch white and attached the birds all along the branch and hung it from the ceiling in the corner. Both make me smile every time I see them :)

Since I'm new I don't have much to update...thanks to my whining about wanting to go home, my doctor is letting me repeat my 24 hour urine test, just in case the levels are good enough for me to continue bed rest back at home, but I know better than to get my hopes up!  Otherwise, my BP's have been stable on the meds they've given me, my labs are all good, and Baby Girl is doing wonderfully.

  • Happy Hump Day everyone!!!!  Hope everyone is feeling good!

    Welcome Cortney!!!

    1. Will your/does your nursery have a theme?  We have created our own theme that we call "Welcome to the World."  If you look at the Land of Nod website, I borrowed some of the ideas for the artwork and painted our little guy pictures of the world map showing different area, animals, buildings, etc.  While I was on bedrest at home, I had plenty of time to paint, so I did various canvasas.  There are also stars hanging over his changing table.

    2. What colors did you use, or do you plan on using?  The wainescoating in his room is dark blue and the upper part of the wall is pale blue.  His bedding is all khaki's and creames and his furniture is Espresso colored.

    3. What is your favorite item in the nursery that you've either purchased already or plan on purchasing?  I really like how my paintings turned out for his wall.  It makes me feel good to have something in there that I made for him while I was baking him.  I am also in the process of making him a braided rug.

    Have a good day!! :)

  • Good morning, ladies! Welcome CortneyTree! Glad you're vision is doing better, etoyama!

    1. Will your/does your nursery have a theme? I knew I wanted to use animals of some sort. DH and his ex had used turtles and frogs in SD's room, so I avoided that. He didn't really want a jungle theme and since we both love outdoors I looked for woodland animals. I didn't go with fish, etc because I knew I wanted green and most of that is blue. Sooo...we used Carter's Forest Friends. We have the complete set except for the lamp (which was on backorder when I ordered the rest) and I found a blanket on another website that we don't have.

    2. What colors did you use, or do you plan on using? The top half of the wall is green, almost the same shade as the green to the right/left on here and the bottom is a very light cream color. DH still needs to put up a chair rail and change the outlets (our home is a little older and we change these as we update each room).

    3. What is your favorite item in the nursery that you've either purchased already or plan on purchasing? I have a rocker in the nursery that has been in my family for a long time. The only problem is it squeaks so I've thought about buying a new rocker/glider.

Updates: Doc appt went well Monday. I'm 1.5-2cm and still 60%. Continue Procardia and bed rest through 36 weeks. My boss is letting me work the week out with 4 hours/day. The way my disability works, if I go back to work, I only have 14 days to come off for the same issue to not have to use 5 days of leave again. So I'm pretty much off work until he gets here and probably on bed rest even after 36 weeks. I have a regular appt Monday the 25th with an u/s. This will only be my 3rd. My first was at 8wks, anatomy scan at 18wks...so I'm pretty excited to see LO again!

  • 1. Will your/does your nursery have a theme? Why yes it does, Puppies! I had the room as a guest room before and it was sort of that theme to begin with because we have pets who used it more then guests lol. I have a painting of thier paws up, pet themed books for little man, and lots of puppy clothes.

    2. What colors did you use, or do you plan on using? The crib and furniture are cherry, and bedding is tan.

    3. What is your favorite item in the nursery that you've either purchased already or plan on purchasing? I am completely in love with these little tiny slippers I bought little man. They are of course little puppies but they are so small. I can't handle the cute.

Feel free to include PIPs if you're so inclined!

Updates: Nothing new to report today.

  • Thanks Etoyama. Heartburn is a little better today and last night was much better than the night before. I arranged all the pillows so I could pretty much sleep sitting up but on my side. I had tried slightly elevated before and it wasn't enough for this round apparently. All is  much more tolerable after a good night's sleep! :)

    1. Will your/does your nursery have a theme? Not really.  When we found out we were having a boy my husband really wanted a baseball or a St. Louis Cardinals themed nursery. I never asked his opinion on decorating my daughter's nursery 2 yrs ago so I felt a little compelled to let him have some input on this one. However, I don't really like 'themes' in nurseries. So the nursery is a combination of Pottery Barn Kids Max & Harper and Kingston with touches of baseball here and there. I found some cute baseball prints, baseball nightlight, and baseball mobile. Once the room is set up I'll decide whether to go with a baseball rug or star rug from PBK.  2. What colors did you use, or do you plan on using?Navy Blue, and Light Blue with touches of Red. The wall (being painted on Tuesday) will be khaki.

    3. What is your favorite item in the nursery that you've either purchased already or plan on purchasing?

I have ordered letters that spell his name for above his crib from Etsy. She is making them to match the bedding and I can't wait to get them. We keep names a secret until our babies are born so the letters will go up at the very last minute.

My update is lame--I finished my very first needlepoint project last night. I made DH one of those belts as a thank you gift for all he's doing while I'm on bedrest. I am both very proud of my project and a little sad that it's already completed. Now I need a new project!!!! :)

BTW--I'm new to message boards in general and I can never get my posts to format. The font and bolding is always crazy and changing. What am I doing wrong? And I still can't get my stupid ticker to change from my first child!

  • Welcome, CortneyTree! 1. The nursery doesn't have theme but it's very pink and girly. A little bit "shabby chic". 2. Light pink walls, white furniture, touches of green. 3. I like the vintage-looking bunting hanging on the wall above the crib, as well as the floor lamp with the pink toile shade. Update: nothing new today - just staying inside to beat the heat.

  • Hi ladies! We've made it 1/2 through this week & it sounds like everyone is doing well!

    1. No theme, it was hard figuring out what to do for a boy/girl nursery! I hated everything I saw in the stores so I ended up picking out fabric that is pretty gender neutral and my aunt made crib skirts and a changing pad cover.

    2. Our main colors are green, blue, yellow & purple. The walls are painted a light gray and all the furniture is white.

    3. I LOVE our cribs. They are very plain and on the smaller side, but I think they are so cute. I basically love the whole room - even though it's not done yet. I go back there a couple times a day just to look at it:)

Updates: nothing going on so that's good I guess! My family is coming to visit this weekend, I'm so excited! But apparently there was a huge hail storm in Denver last week that has grounded a bunch of Frontier planes and they've been canceling frontier flights left and right. Of course that's what my mom and sister are flying so we are crossing our fingers that by Friday everything will be worked out and they will make it here just fine.

Hope everyone has a good day and that it goes by fairly quickly;)

  • 1. Will your/does your nursery have a theme?  Yes.  It was originally going to be Harley Davidson but there's not much out there so that's the basis of the theme and we're going to work different modes of transportation in it with orange and black colors.2. What colors did you use, or do you plan on using?  Mostly orange and black.3. What is your favorite item in the nursery that you've either purchased already or plan on purchasing?  The cribFeel free to include PIPs if you're so inclined! Updates:  I'm a little tender down there today.  Not sure why but other than that nothing else is new with me.

Our walls are pale green with white base boards.  We chose white baby furniture and our glider white with  pale green cushions piped in white.  We have hard wood floors so I am stilll looking for a rug of some kind, I may wait until after the baby is born and use the rug to pull either more pink or blue in the room.

  • Hi ladies, sounds like everyone is doing well so far this week. Etoyama- glad your vision is better. Welcome Cortney- hope your stay on the high-risk board is uneventful!

     1. Will your/does your nursery have a theme? Yes- I had these old Dinotopia paintings (from when I was growing up) reframed and went with a dino theme in his nursery. We got some really cute fathead dino's on amazon and stuck those all around the walls- turned out adorable!

    2. What colors did you use, or do you plan on using? the baseboards, chair rail and crown molding are all white, the bottom half is a darker blue and the top a lighter blue. The bedding, etc are all brown with white polka dots or white stripes. My glider is brown.

    3. What is your favorite item in the nursery that you've either purchased already or plan on purchasing? So far my favorite purchase is probably the glider- it is super comfortable and I picture us spending a lot of time in it together. To be honest tho- I love it all!

Updates-  Since my doctor is allowing me out of the house a couple of times a week now, he said I could finally go to the DMV to get my license renewed (of course this is the year that I can't do it by mail and have to go in- and it expires next week). I made an appointment so my stay would be short, and tried to sit down as often as possible, but after the eye exam and the new photo (which is going to turn out swollen and red after all of that standing!) I'm absolutely exhausted and think I will probably sleep the rest of the day.

Sounds adorable! Here's how to post a pic: go to tinypic dot com. Upload the picture (choose the website/email size). Once your picture uploads, you'll be given a code (choose the one for message boards/forums). Copy and paste the entire link directly into your post. You won't be able to preview it first, but it's never been a problem for me. HTH!

  • Hi everyone, I'm new, too! 1) our nursery doesn't have a theme, other than to not have one. :) 2) we chose primary colors so the bedding could be used for baby #2, too, in case that one isn't a girl. Primary colors were hard to find! We had the walls painted 'fun' yellow and are accessorizing with red gingham. It's very cheery! 3) I don't have a favorite thing... I love everything we've purchased for her!

  • Hi Ladies

Our nursery theme is Charlie Brown/Peanuts.  The colors are blue, green, brown, and yellow.  My mother made a quilt and curtain out of those solid colors with one block that has circles of all those colors.  We got the Carter's sheets and crib skirt that are green and brown circles and a rug that has green, blue, brown, and yellow circles.  The decorations include stuffed Charlie Brown, Snoopy on a shelf with a framed picture of snoopy that says life is good.  Also a large green brown and yellow poster framed with charlie brown and snoopy that says happiness is peanuts and then three wooden/glass tiles with charlie brown, linus, and sally on them that say happiness is...a sad song, a circus balloon, and a pile of leaves.  The tiles are probably my favorite!  It's a very small but very cute room.  Don't know how to post pics!

I had a doc appt today and all is well.  Just keep resting and on procardia until 36 weeks.
