30 minute napper....

Hey everyone! Just wondering if I am the only one with a child who only naps 30 minutes? We follow a combination (very loosely) of BW and EASY methods, with the whole eat/play/sleep pattern. I can't complain because she sleeps well at night, but I've read naps should be 1.5-2 hours! I know every baby is different, and she wakes up from these naps all bright-eyed and bushy tailed. I'm just wondering when she will transition to just a couple longer naps, rather than these mini naps?

PS. she's 3 months today...

Re: 30 minute napper....

  • If she sleeps well at night and seems happy in the day, I wouldn't worry about it. Mine only takes 1/2 hour naps unless she's on me, then she'll go longer... but if she's content when she wakes up I don't worry. She naps every hour and a half so maybe she's making up for it with that extra nap or two Wink

  • DS naps for 45 minutes about 4 times a day.  He sleeps 10 hours at night so I'm not worried.  He's a very happy baby.

  • Nora is a 30 minute napper as well. She takes 3 or 4 of them a day, and it's like she has a 30 minute timer attached to her.

  • DD sleeps really well at night, but she sucks at napping. 30 minutes would be a blessing.

But I can't complain, she's either STTN or waking once for a quick bottle. She gets super cranky before bed (total meltdowns are common) because she's tired from the day, but she's going down around 5:45-6:00 and sleeping until 5:00 a.m.

So again, I really can't complain even if it makes for few breaks during the day (I work from home and had been somewhat counting on naptime to get stuff done.)

  • Have you tried to extend her naps with e methods from Baby Whisperer? BW and Dr. Sears both talked about 30-45 minutes being one sleep cycle for a baby. If they qree waking up at that time they are probably having a hard time transitioning to the next sleep cycle. We had the same issue for awhile. What I started doing (BW recommended) was going into his room 5 minutes before his wake up time and putting my hand on his chest for about five minutes. He didnt fully wake up, but it did help his start sleeping longer again.
