Pregnant after IF

be honest, should I be worried

I went Monday for another ultrasound at the RE, was suppose to be released this week.  Well the doctor, and not my normal one, said I was measuring 6w3d when I was suppose to be 6w6d.  The HB was between 120-130.  I am going back Monday for another ultrasound with the RE, but I'm really afraid something is wrong now.  I'm thinking of calling tomorrow to see if I could go in Friday because I don't think I'll be able to make it to Monday.  This is my first pregnancy after two years of trying and our second IUI.

Re: be honest, should I be worried

  • I honestly don't think you have anything to worry about.  The difference in 3 days is nothing, and when you do an u/s the measurements are usually given  +/- a number of days.  I think the heart rate is still in the process of speeding up.  Good luck.

  • I measured 6 days behind at one point and I am about to deliver my LO soon, try not to worry too much. I know it can be crazy stressful, im sorry!

  • Please don't worry. In early pregnancy it's common to measure ahead or behind by as much as a week. My LO always measured 3-5 days behind.

  • Like everyone else said, it's common to measure a head or behind in the beginning. Try not to worry, I'm sure your little one is just perfect.

However, you knowing you better than anyone else, if you know you can't make it over the weekend, call and see if they can get you in on Friday. We all need a peace of mind.

  • I think that this early on, it's really hard for them to be really accurate, so a 3 day difference is nothing to worry about. It will become more apparent to them in the ultrasounds that follow.

  • I know it's so hard not to worry about everything. This is all new territory for most of us, so we just don't know what should happen. However, given what you said, it doesn't sound like there's any need for worry. For a while I was measuring about 6 days behind, but now s/he has caught up. They said what was important was that the baby and sac were still growing consistently and that they would usually catch up to eachother (turns out the dr knew what she was talking about...go figure!).

I hope everything turns out to be fine. Take some deep breaths and try to get your appt moved up if you can. GL!

We also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And HOPE does not dissappoint.

Ditto. I know it's easier said than done but please don't worry.

  • No need to worry.  The measurements taken by different people tend to differ slightly.  Especially at this stage when your baby is so tiny.

  • my RE, OB, MFM and all the u/s techs i have seen have all said that u/s measurements, especially early on, can be within 7 days (in other words, you could have measured 5w6d and still been within "normal" range).

if your RE wasn't worried, then try not to be (easier said than done, i know!).

I'm going to agree with the other ladies -- I don't think you need to worry.  I had my first u/s at 7w1d and both babies measured a couple of days behind and one heart rate was 120.  I , of course, was sure something was wrong.  My RE wasn't concerned AT ALL.  I'm being induced today :)

Hang in there.  Unfortunately, I think worrying is part of the process, but try to take a deep breath, relax, and enjoy being pregnant!

  • I agree with the PPs.  3 days behind is really nothing - u/s that early aren't exact - more like a range.  And I think the HR is right on!

  • It is too bad the RE didn't give you some context for your visit.  As PP have said, it's not unusual to not measure exactly on target (+/- up to a week can be normal), because babies grow at different rates and there is human involvement in the measurement.  That being said, none of us can really tell you anything about your baby.  It is still very early.  There is nothing you or your RE can do regardless, so I would try to relax and enjoy that you are pregnant.  Making it to a HB is a big milestone.  Congrats!

  • I measured a week behind this pregnancy in the begining. I know it's easier said than done but I really would try not to worry if I were you.
