Hi, I have a 6 yr old, so its been awhile since I've delivered. I was was wondering what you all packed for the hospital, and what you actually used and what really wasn't needed to bring with. Thanks
Chapstick, hairbrush, ponytail holders, my small make-up bag (with my travel sized face wash, moisturizer, etc). Baby's going home outfit, my going home outfit, a change of clothes for dh. Also my camera and charger, cell phone, wallet.
I brought way too much stuff with me. If I had it to do over again, I would take a couple loose, cotton summer dresses (one to wear home), one pair (not threee) of comfy yoga-type pants, a couple loose maternity cotton tops, socks with grippers or slippers, sleep nursing bras, flip flops (for the shower), travel sizes of everything (shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, cutips), make-up, razor, hairbrush, ponytail holders, headband, chap-stick, phone chargers, laptop, etc. I had a c-section and the mesh undies the hospital provided were awesome and I didn't even wear my regular undies until I was home for a few days. For the baby, I didn't think I would need my boppy, but I had my family bring it over to me and it was awesome for those early nursing days. If you do plan to breastfeed, make sure you stock up on everything the hospital will give you - cooling gel pads, nipple cream, etc. Those were lifesavers for me! Good luck!
same as above but i would add a heating pad because our hospital one was from the dinosair era ! so this time around i took it and what a relief even the nurse said that was good thinking. best of luck to you and lo.
Used: Nursing bras, Lansinoh Lanolin (my hospital didn't provide it), my own toiletries (toothbrush, shampoo & conditioner), glasses, chapstick, makeup, yoga pants, my own pillow & blanket, hair ties & barrettes, flip flops (for shower), warm cuddly slippers, robe, camera & charger, cell phone & charger.
Didn't use: My own towel, maternity jeans, manual breast pump, hairdryer, pads, books.
Also, H had to run out to get me some high-rise grannie panties, because all the underwear I brought hit right at my c/s incision. My c/s was unplanned, so I didn't plan for having a big surgery scar. And we had a food bag packed for DH and he ate it all, lol. I had a long labor.
One thing I didn't bring but wished I would have was a sleep mask. Between the frequent visits from the nurses I got very little sleep because the room had a couple of night lights that couldn't be turned off and it made sleeping really difficult.
Someone suggesting bringing 2 going home outfits in case there is a poop mishap and I'm glad I did b/c LO had his first and only poop-splosion in his white going home outfit.
I wore nursing tanks and yoga pants the entire time I was there- I also only wore the mesh panties the first day. I was glad to have my own. If you think you might want regular ones bring them with you- they take up such a tiny amount of space.
FWIW- I was SO HOT the entire time I was in the hospital. Everyone else was cold, but I felt like I was on fire.
I did not use the music I brought or the underwear & pads I brought (until I left) but I was super thankful for the robe I brought and the chapstick and toiletries I brought. The hospital provides toiletries but I was glad to have my own.
