How is breastfeeding going?  From what I can tell from your posts, I think that you and I are kind of in the same situation with breastfeeding.

Yep. That about sums it up.

OK, well it's not that bad. I try a few times a day, and obtain success about 20-30% of the time with the nipple shield. DD just HATES the nipple shield. Even if I stick my finger in it and put it in her mouth (she'll suck on my finger just fine, but won't with the shield on it). And, bare breasted feeding is just laughable at this point. DD has no idea what to do with a squishy nipple that isn't made of plastic or protruding an inch.

I'm still seeing a LC. But, man, BFing is hard. I have to get DD in the right mood to even try it, and what worked one day doesn't work the next day. Very frustrating.

How is it going for you?

  • She latches well with the shield and nurses for about 20 minutes a side. I feel like she is getting plenty, but then about 20 minutes later starts acting like she is starving again. So I feed her an ounce or so of pumped milk and she's fine. I am just ready to ditch this pump! After you nurse or attempt to nurse do you still pump? I have been which is why after I breastfeed I give a bottle becauase I know I'm empty. Do you have any kind of a freezer stash built up?

Yep. I pump after each session. My supply is about 3oz short of what she eats each day, so while I do have a freezer stash, I'm using it up. I'm guzzling down fenugreek like there's no tomorrow, and am pumping 8 times a day. I'm averaging about 13-15 oz a day, and DD eats 16-18 oz a day. I probably have 100oz left in the freezer.

I'm with you on ready to ditch the pump. We have a few trips coming up, and I'm mentally trying to figure out whether to bring the symphony or the PISA (which I've never used), and whether to pack it or carry it on. I'd love to just not bring it and pop out the ol' boob whenever she is hungry.

It sounds like you're making good headway. Keep up the great work!

  • I also am renting a Symphony and have a PISA. I used the PISA once and promptly called to renew my rental. Okay...it's not that bad but it is so freaking loud!! And the suction isn't as gentle as the Symphony. I know I can't rent the thing forever but I would really like to...especially if I have to pump for the majority. . I am jealous of your 100oz stash. I have about 30oz right now. I am drinking mothers milk tea and eat oatmeal everyday. The next step is fenugreek and lactation cookies.
