December 2011 Moms

What do you eat for breakfast?

Before I got PG, I was never a big breakfast eater. Normally I just a cup of coffee.

I wake up at 4am and I swear, it's physically impossible for me to eat anything at that ridiculous hour.

I've been taking Instant Oatmeal to work with me and eating at about 7. But I'm SO SICK OF OATMEAL.

What else can I bring with me that's easy?

Re: What do you eat for breakfast?

  • I am a guidance counselor and off for the summer so my breakfast habits are different, but during the year I would bring a banana, greek yogurt, granola bar....sometimes id scramble a quick egg and put it on a WW english muffin or wrap and foil it and eat it at work.  I also sometimes had fruit, and oatmeal on rare mornings.  I also would bring whole grain peanut butter crackers

  • I was eating "kid's" breakfast cereal, like Apple Jacks, but my blood sugar was tanking around 11 a.m., so I switched to Raisin Bran. Not as yummy, but I don't feel crappy later in the morning.

I keep a box of it at my desk, and a half-gallon of milk in the office fridge (in a plastic shopping bag, so nobody else uses it).

2 eggo waffles every morning at home, then some instant oatmeal around 10 am at the office. Lunch is usually around 11.30/12. I always have some apples and cereal bars in my desk drawers, too, in case I get hungry in between.

  • If I don't eat a bowl of cereal ( or even when I do), I pack a bag of snacks:

    Smuckers uncrustables PB & Honey

    Babybel cheese or string cheese

    fruit cup

    Can of V8 Fusion

Nature Valley Sweet & Salty bar

  • Normally I am a can't miss breakfast person and during the school year I usually will have a cereal bar and a piece of fruit, peanut butter on toast, yogurt on an eggo waffle, granola and yogurt and another quick option is a morning trail mix (mine was usually just dried berries and raw almonds or lightly salted cashews) .

  • Lately is has been cereal and almond milk (recently discovered that I am lactose intolerant). I try to include some type of fruit in there, whether it be bananas or strawberries.

I usually have a bagel or bowl of cereal because they are quick and I'm always rushing in the morning.

  • I've always eaten a relatively big breakfast. I've been loving eggs in the morning lately, although at 4:00 am I doubt I could handle them. I would probably bring something to work to eat there. I was having a bagel sandwich with eggs and cream cheese (and bacon on the weekends!), but I think I was putting on too much weight from it. Now I've been making a breakfast burrito with a WW tortilla, salsa, black beans, and avacado. Delish!

  • I was never a big breakfast eater either. Before getting pregnant I would usually bring a Slim Fast with me to work.

I think they'd be good for pregnant ladies even though we aren't trying to lose weight. They have a lot of vitamins and stuff in them. The Special K shakes are also tasty! Ensure also makes a shake that's a bit thicker than Slim Fast or Special K.

Since I'm not working anymore I've been eating cereal for breakfast, this week it's been Frosted Flakes :)

  • I do a high protein cliff bar (one of the builder bars) or luna bar with a cup of coffee at 6:30 when l/o gets up. Around 8 (his AM nap) I do a protein shake, either an odwalla or a Whey Protein powder mixed with 8-12 oz milk. I will add an apple in there if I am really hungry.

I'm a huge protein fan, especially since it's easy and on the go.

  • I usually grab a Pop Tart to eat while I'm driving to work.
  • GRITS! Instant Grits first thing in the morning are the best thing for a pregnant woman to eat IMO! It's an old southern remedi for m/s and it totally works. I just wish Id been told that several weeks ago. Eh, either way as long as I eat a bowl of instant grits with some butter in the am I can eat anything else I want for the rest of the day. The "theory" is that the grits are really easy on your tummy and they "coat" your stomach to prep it for the day. I dont know if it's true, but it definitely staves off nausea.

  • I love oatmeal, so I have that a lot, but I know you are sick of that.  So...

wheat toast with peanut butter and a banana

    yogurt with granola and berries

bagel and cream cheese and fruit

cereal (anything with higher fiber and lower sugar will keep you fuller longer) with some fruit

eggs (hard boiled is easy) with fruit and toast

scrambled egg in a wrap or on an english muffin (if you semi cook the eggs before you go to work, you could finish cooking them in a microwave if you have access to one.

    leftovers are sometimes nice too.

  • I normally do either a whole wheat english muffin or bagel with cream cheese, or a smoothie. The smoothies are super simple and go down easy if you're not a breakfast person. My favorite one is: a banana, about a 1/2 cup of milk, a little peanut butter, scoop of chocolate protein powder (or Ovaltine) and ice. Soooo yummy!!

On the weekends when I have more time in the AM, I'll make a breakfast burrito with eggs or Eggbeaters, scrambled with green chiles, then add a little cheese and salsa- so good!

  • I typically grab a banana, jello cup and 2 pieces of cinnamon toast.
  • I am so not a breakfast person.. I do love pancakes, but only eat them once in a while. I usually eat PB&J toast or a lunchable. I do like scrambled eggs, but don't make them often. I eat yogurt and fruit a lot... or sometimes i just go straight to a sandwhich!
