3rd Trimester

Baby Callie arrived early!!!!!

So here's my story....not exactly what we had planned :)

At my doctors appointment last Tuesday I still had decreased movement from the baby.  Even though the US and NST looked ok the doctor decided to admit me to the hospital to be monitored for 24 hours.

The baby's heart rate did drop a couple times and each time that happens they want to keep you for another 24 hours.  Well, it happened a couple more times so they decided I should consult with a high-risk to go over options.

The high-risk recommended that I be induced on Friday morning!  They really couldn't figure out what was causing the heart rate to drop and felt it would be safer to have the baby out.

Thursday night they inserted cervadil because I was only 1cm.   Friday morning they checked me and no progress!   They decided to move me to labor and delivery and insert a bulb.  Well, the second I got into bed my water broke!

At 8am Friday they started petocin.   I knew contractions would hurt, but OMG! The worst part was there was only a 15-30 second break between contractions.

Based on how things were going they anticipated that it would be a long process so I decided to go with an epidural.

They checked me at 9:40 and I was already 4cm so I got the epidural.   By 10am I was feeling much better and my mom and sister came in the room (DH of course was already there).

By 12pm I was 8cm and by 12:30 I was 10cm.  I could not believe how fast things were moving, even the nurses were shocked!  My doctor was delivering a baby so they slowed things down.

Doctor came to check me at 1pm and was like "the baby is right there, let's go". Everyone was scattering around to get ready.  I asked my mom and sister to leave, I only wanted my husband there for the pushing.

I started pushing at 1:15 and Callie was born at 1:23!!!!   It only took 3 sets of pushing.

After her shoulders were out the doctor asked my husband if he wanted to pull her out and place her on my chest...which of he did!  That was such a special moment for my husband.

Hearing that first cry was the best feeling in the world.  Hearing that she was healthy was the biggest relief and most incredible moment of happiness.

Callie arrived 3 weeks early and was 6lbs 2oz and 19 inches.

When she came out the umbilical cord was around her neck...not firmly, but they think that's what was causing her heart beat to drop.  As she shifted or I moved, the cord may have constricted her breathing.

We've been home a couple days now and things are going great.   Being first timers we are pretty clueless but learning as we go :)
