Fun Fact Full Moon prediction...

I know there have been some past posts about full moons bringing on babies. But my doctor made a joke/comment last week about the full moon bringing out babies up to 4 days before or after so it got me thinking.

I went back and checked the full moons for each month/year my other 3 children were born and what do you know. I had each of them 4 days before a full moon (one came on due date, one was induced a week late and one came 14 days early). What are the odds?

So that would mean I could have this one Aug 9th (36 weeks) or Sept 8th (40 weeks) if this one comes 4 days before the full moons like her siblings.

Re: Fun Fact Full Moon prediction...

  • DD came one week after April full moon so I dont think she counts! She was due on the may full moon though. The 27th.. so Im not worried about the moon sucking out babies ;) But I have heard stories more babies are actually born around the full moons..

  • Interesting!  I'm all for 9/8.  2 days past my due date sounds so much better than 2 weeks past. Big Smile

  • Interesting. I came on the full moon, two weeks early, so my mom looked up the one for September and has been guessing the 12. I hadn't heard the 4 day after thing. Oddly, though, a guy who told me he'd never been wrong about predicting a birth told me the 16th.

  • I have a friend that is a L&D nurse and she swears it's so much busier on the L&D floor on the nights of full moons!
  • my mom was a nicu nurse and then a l&d manager and she said l&d was always busier around a full moon and major storms (blizzard, hurricane, etc.)

  • My mom is a labor and delivery nurse and dreads going to work when there is a full moon. For some reason, whenever there is a full moon her shift is crazy busy.... Seems like there might be something to it. GL on the 9th and the 8th!

  • I have heard this as well, but I guess we shall see.

I do know it seems there is a lot more office referrals at school around the full moon or when a cold front it coming in.

Ugh, hurricanes. I live in Florida and am due at the height of hurricane season (not the weak June hurricanes, but the monsters that roll off the coast of Africa and tear your roof off without a second thought.) When I was a reporter I did a story on hurricane babies, and the nurse I interviewed said the storms bring such a huge drop in atmospheric pressure that it can bring on labor. So I'm really hoping for a dry September!

  • I am due the 16th! That would be kinda neat if I did in fact have him on the 16th, it would be within the 4 day after period and make this fun fact true in my case :)

  • It seems I read somewhere a long time ago that full moons actually do affect labor.  It messes with the tides of the oceans and since LO is in a sac of water basically, it messes with that too!  I don't know how much truth there is to it but it is a thought!
