breathable bumpers

Now that DS is a rolling pin, I'm thinking about removing them.  If you have them on your LOs crib, what are your thoughts?

Re: breathable bumpers

  • I was thinking this too. More than once I have found DS rolled over face against the bumper. If we didnt have the Angel Care monitor I'd be freaking out. I was thinknig of removing it completely. Even the breathable ones do not do much I don't think maybe prevent limbs from sticking out but even if they did his arms/legs are so small they wouldn't get caught.

  • We have just pulled LO down beside his mattress since he does not have a bed skit it just looks better than seeing his sheet and mattress.  He only takes naps in his right now.  He is still in my room in his bassanet.  We have got to get a Angel monitor before we move him.  We have the video but not confortable with just that since his room is up stairs.

I <3 our breathable bumper. DD smashes herself up against the side of the crib. For some reason, I feel more comfortable with a breathable bumper than nothing at all.
    I married a ginger.

  • I don't have any.  My pedi recommended (per the AAP) not to use any bumpers because of the risk of suffocating.  But I'm super nervous about stuff like that too.

  • I think I'll leave ours up.  It doesn't bother me, design-wise, in her room.  And I don't want her little arms or legs to get stuck in the slats...not that they're chubby enough to get stuck in between 2 slats, but my fear would be that she'd get an arm out, and then twist her body weird to try to free herself, and end up dislocating a shoulder or something.

  • After reading this article (https://www.usatoday.com/money/industries/retail/2011-04-22-crib-bumper-safety.htm) we decided to remove the breathable bumper in DD's crib.

THIS.  We actually just bought them and put them in this weekend BECAUSE she's rolling.  She would end up with both legs sticking out the slats - or an arm sticking out and down so that she was totally stuck.  I was worried about the twisting too.

  • I have a regular bumper and I'm fine with it. I'm not one to get freaked out about stuff. Not sure if it's because LO is my 3rd, although I always had bumpers with my older two. Like pp's if I didn't have one B would be hanging out of it since he's all over the place. so I like the idea of having one.

  • Hmmm interesting.  I didn't think of the flip- getting wedged in between slats.  He pulls down on them now (mainly in his sleep) and that's what has me concerned most.

  • DS and DD both get wedged in the slats. And it doesn't really have to do with having chubby limbs. If they get a leg out in their sleep and then bend it, they will wake up screaming because they cannot maneuver it back in. Our pedi gave us the go ahead on breathables and said that he used them with his son. That being said, we haven't brought ourselves to use them yet. The material is the same that is on a PNP, right? And lots of babies sleep in those. But still...we haven't used them yet.
  • We put the breathable bumpers up the day after DD stuck her arm and leg through the slats and couldn't pull them back out. She is also a tummy sleeper and scoots. We lay her down in the middle of the crib and by morning she is wedged in one corner so the bumper provides some (not much, but some) cushion for her head too.

  • I use one and plan to continue :)

  • We just bought one. DD just naps in her crib occasionally, still sleeps in our room in her cradle, but she flails like crazy! The slats on her cradle aren't big enough to get her limbs through but she whacks herself off of them and it can't feel good. She doesn't really roll in her sleep so I'm okay with using it right now, at least.
