Worst idea ever

My sister has decided to get her impacted wisdom tooth extracted 3 days before her wedding. I can't think of a worse Plan. My face swelled so bad I had black eyes and couldn't open my mouth for 2 weeks. She's pretty sure the discomfort Now will be worse than surgery. I can't talk her out of it!

I just had mine (two were impacted) out last week and while i feel basically normal, i can't eat regular food or clean my mouth to my satisfaction. I have had no complications (even very minimal bruising/swelling), but i can't imagine getting married the same week. It will also make the wedding night a bit... less fun. Your experience sounds horrible! You're right -- she shouldn't do it.

when I had mine taken out I was fine, no swelling pain or anything. My sister however swelled up so bad that she looked like a freak of nature and her mouth was this little tiny circle.

Your sister is crazy! she has no idea if she will swell up or not and I would not tkae that risk that close to my wedding.

I had three, and the oral surgeon said that they were the biggest he had ever seen in his 20-year career. I woke up in the middle of the surgery, I required twice the amount of anesthesia used for someone my size, he punctured my sinuses, I couldn't eat for two weeks, I swelled up so bad that I looked like a cartoon chipmunk, and I was in more pain with that surgery than I was after my c/s.

I know that my experience was a "worse case scenario case," but your sister is NUTS!

Yikes! When I had mine done I was okay, but the next day I woke up and saw my cheeks were yellow and bruised. Does the dentist who is doing this know she is getting married in 3 days? They will probably advise her against doing this so close to her wedding since she won't know how her body will react!!

What??? That's crazy! My face was hugely swollen after I had mine extracted. Why on earth won't she wait until after her wedding?

Update : I brought it up again web we got to her house. She blew up at me! My calm response was " well it's your face". Then I wanted my mom to drive me and W home because I already don't like my sister and I wasn't about to sit around at her house while she was a total Bch to me. This resulted in my mom getting involved while my sister hysterically cried in her room about how awful I am. Yeah it's her wedding but I only said something because at the time I cared. I no longer care. She leaves for an over seas honeymoon on Wednesday so she thinks it's best tO do the surgery now. Whatever.

Wow. That's really dumb. I was lucky and had very little pain or swelling after having all four removed (3 were impacted). But no way in hell would I have risked it with such an important day that week.

Maybe she'll get lucky and have an easy time with it. But at this point I almost hope that isn't entirely the case for I fear you'll never hear the end of it.

(I'm a horrible person... let's pretend I didn't say that.)

I agree - she's crazy for

a) scheduling dental surgery so close to her wedding

AND

b) getting angry with you for trying to be helpful

They accidentally split my lip when I got my wisdom teeth out. Luckily, it did not scar. She should do it after the wedding--the wedding photos-they are expensive--and anything else crazy can happen--it is like you are going for perfection for that day.

OP, if she's not worried about her face being the size of a volleyball, or her cheeks bring bruised, is she not worried about feeling overall terrible, not being able to eat anything (and possibly no alcohol) on her wedding day? I'd rather be in a little pain but get to look good in my pictures and be able to enjoy the festivities of the entire weekend. But, that's just me Your sister sounds a little BSC.

I worked in a dental office for many years and I'm pretty sure that's the worst idea ever! Even if she doesn't swell she will be very sore!

I'm in the hoping for a big-swollen-purple-face camp. I hope she ends up allergic to the pain meds like I did and not only has a bruised chipmunk face, but burst blood vessels all over her face and eyes from puking her guts out all night. And I only feel a little bad. [ well, actually that sounds really bad...but I survived it] Sorry for you having to deal with this!

I do not feel bad in the slightest about wanting her to feel and look miserable. You are a *saint* to put up with everything she has said and done over the past couple years and frankly I think she deserves some really bad karma on this. She is damn lucky you don't take W and hop the next plane out of there.

Add me to the "I hope her face does swell up and she regrets the surgery even after you warned her not to" group. Seriously, that's just plain crazy to even risk it! All 4 of mine were impacted and I was swollen and miserable for days!

Why doesn't she do it after her wedding? Is she in pain now? This just makes no sense to me.
