Need Advise...Eating less at daycare

I BF on demand when we are together and when he started daycare I told them to feed him every 3 hours just because it was usually 3 hours between feedings at home.  The past week or so he has not finished the bottles that I had been sending for him to eat every 3 hours.  His teachers asked me if they could just feed him on demand instead of the 3 hours, so I agreed since that's what I do at home. Now he is only eating 5 oz every 4 -5 hours at daycare.  At home, he is still eating every 3-4 hours on demand (except for at night).  Should I be concerned that he isn't eating as often? Should I increase the 5 oz bottles since he is now finishing them when eating on demand? TIA!

  • 5 oz every three hours might just be a lot of milk for him.  My 7 month old still only takes 4 oz bottles every three hours.  Have you weighed him before and after feeding to see how much he really eats when you nurse?

  • No I have not.  I don't have a scale at home. Do you think I should make the smaller bottles so he eats more often or just leave the 5 oz bottles and let him go the longer periods of time?  Now that he is only eating the 2 bottles at daycare, I'm freezing a TON more BM.

  • DS started daycare when he was 10 weeks old...I have always only provided them with 3 bottles...and up till just the past month or so I would always go home with one still unused. I am not to worried about it. I nurse on demand when he is home with me or if were out in about. And he will nurse ALOT!!! Right now he is eating 3 7oz bottles (at daycare only), 2 helpings of oatmeal and 2 Jars of Stage 2 fruit/ Veggi/Meat each day and nurses in between when With me...
