Preemies

Teething?

I can't believe I'm asking this...C is only 7 weeks adjusted and a little over 4 months actual.

When do preemies start teething? Actual or adjusted? And what were the signs?

C has been inconsolably fussy today, I have literally had in her my arms or in a wrap since 8:30 this morning. She's drooling like crazy, bites (not sucks) my finger if I put it in her mouth, screams every time I try to get her to eat and won't take a nap. If my baby who still has a newborn sleeping/eating schedule is teething I just might lose my mind Smile

Any ideas?

Re: Teething?

  • Teething is supposed to follow hereditary patterns.  Do you know how early you and your H started teething? It may clue you in to know if that is what you are dealing with.

  • I'm dealing with the same thing with JS. I was convinced he was teething or had an ear infection last week and took him to the pedi. She said nope to both. He's been fine for a few days but yesterday was not our best day.
Are her gums red and puffy? That's what our pedi said to look for.

  • Mine started drooling like crazy around the same age. They STILL are drooling, and not one tooth yet :) Get the bibs ready!

No red gums, just an unhappy girl.

This helps--especially since Cora and JS seem to have had similar paths so far. We have an appointment this afternoon to get her ears checked just to be safe. She started sounding a little congested overnight so I'm praying she isn't sick...

Have you found anything that comforts him? The only thing that seems to make C happy is being walked around the house in her Moby for hours (literally all I did yesterday)

  • I'm looking for answers to this also!
Rylen is 8 weeks old and 2weeks 1day adjusted but his bottom gums are a bit swollen and red, been drooling a little, he's very unhappy and barely sleeping during the day. Randomly cries during feedings and just very unhappy the last 2 days.

Back from the pedi. She said its definetly not teething or an ear infection--yay! She said the most likely scenario is that C caught a tiny cold bug that just made her uncomfortable for a few days. The pedi told me it was good we brought her in  since she wasn't eating well but just to keep watching and go back if things change again. Overall C seems to be doing better today-still fussy but better.

Oh and she magically turned into the happiest baby ever at the doctor's office but is crying again right now. So unfair!

Glad it's nothing major. Our pedi said it was likely a head cold as well. Crazy, huh? I've still been checking his temp a couple of times a day.
