question about spotting after internal

So I'm 38w4d and I had my first internal today (2cm) and I've been spotting all day....and even had some little red floaties in the toilet for most of the day.  Is this normal?  My SIL told me that I shouldn't be spotting this much and now I'm worried.  But, she also a  bit of a know it all...soooo....anyone else spot all day after their internal?  I dont want to be nervous - but I haven't had any bleeding since last october!

Re: question about spotting after internal

  • Sounds pretty normal to me... if you're concerned though, call your doc. :)

  • I have had that exact experience after every internal although I didn't get the little red floaties until my membrane sweeping.  When in doubt go with your gut, but I am pretty sure it's to be expected.  Feel better!

  • Thanks ladies...I just wanted to be sure.  When my SIL said that I shouldn't be spotting after 2 or so trips to the bathroom and now it's 13 hours later and I still am I got a little nervous.  I have never bled after any of the other internal type exams so I wasn't sure!

It's definitely not brown though - it's quite pink.

  • I bled red for hours after a really rough internal the other week. I was in L&D afterwards for BP issues and they said it was fine and normal as long as I wasn't soaking through pads

i agree with PP. My my midwife said as long as it snot like a heavy period its ok.

Again, I always say if you are nervous call b/c the drs know better than us and that is what you are paying for but my experience was a lot of blood for a long time (fri-sunday) but not as much as a period.

  • I had an internal today as well and I'm spotting like a light period. My Ob said is was normal when I called and said not to worry, and that I could spot for 2/3 days.
