Hyperglycemia - Symptoms & Relief?

So I was at the docs last week (24 weeks) and let the doctor know about the weirdness that I've been feeling. I'm been really dizzy, lightheaded, hard to catch my breathe at times and heart feels like it's jumpin' outta my chest. He said it's my blood sugar dropping off and to eat protein every hour and a half.

So now that it's just so freakin' hot out I'm not one to eat. However, I've been eating peanuts, pb&j sandwiches, beef jerky (bleh!) and chili w/loads of beans. This morning I had a Fiber One Bar and got sick shortly after. Being that I suffered with hypermesis (8-20 weeks) I'm so use to eating carbs. The carbs have helped the nausea and now I'm afraid it's coming back because of the lack of carbs.

So....I guess my question is what were your symptoms of hyperglycemia and what did you do for relief? Also, what were some foods that you enjoyed eating?

Thanks in advance ladies!

Re: Hyperglycemia - Symptoms & Relief?

  • With both pregnancy and BF'ing, if I need a protein boost I'll eat (other than meat): peanut butter, almonds, cheese, hummus, yogurt, Carnation Instant Breakfast, hard boiled eggs.  You can pair all of those things with a carb......PB on whole wheat bread, cheese and crackers, hummus with pretzels or on a pita, etc, etc.  Most are also a great opportunity to sneak in a veggie serving too.  I think DS suffers from hypoglycemia at times too and these are the go to snacks I give him and it seems to do the trick.  HTH!
