We need one. We're not rich nor do we own a ton of fancy stuff, however, NJ signs your LO over to the state if both parents/guardians pass & I think your property is distributed by the state as well. I'm willing to bet it's a major PITA (not to mention traumatic) to get LO back into the arms of friends/family. DH set up an appointment this week with a lawyer to draft one up. We talked about it over the weekend about who we would leave F to and decided on B's brother & his wife. They live within a half an hour from us and have three kids of their own- they're financially stable &, IMO, are amazing parents. Shoot, he'd probably be better off with them! Haha...I'm joking. Our dogs too- as silly as it sounds- will have a designated custodian Oddly enough, it was truly the first time I actually thought about all of this stuff.
Wondering if you thought about this and if so, do you have anything in place (legally) now that LO is here?

GAH!
We totally spaced on it again. We keep forgetting but we need to get going on it. We have thought about it all and have it all figured out we just need to get it down in an official document.
Check your state law! I wouldn't recommend this because in many states I know that the courts would not recognize a letter as written notice of your wishes; it would be too easy for someone to forge this. In Washington State the courts require that your will is witnessed by 2 different people in order to be valid; you don?t have to have a lawyer write it up for you (although it is a good idea) .
We need to do a will and a Trust, we can't decide who we would want as a guardian for DD2 and this has really held us up. We need to get in gear!Great for you!! Life insurance for us is in the bag- that's what DH does for a living. This whole subject is bleh, but it's so so important to protect one another. WTG to all the ladies who have already taken care of this burden!!
