U.S. C-section rate at 34%

For 2009 (the new data just came out). It's still rising, everyone (it was 32% in 2007). Not good!

    This is so frustrating!  But is is slightly encouraging for me since my hospital went down from 29% in 2008 to 24% in 2009.  Apparently there is progress somewhere...

    It is frightening.  I am hoping that all of the latest in the news about supporting VBACs, etc and the dangers of unnecessary interventions will open SOME eyes.  Just saw a recent article about the dangers of c/s's and inducing before 39 weeks.  That info alone should cut back of some of them.

    the hospital i delivered DD at had a C-section rate of 45%

    wish i would have known ahead of time, although it wouldn't have made a difference since she was a true emergency

    Yep, every year we see "New record high c/s rate."  Great. 

    Increased access to VBAC could turn that around though.

    Wow, sadly that is low, but good. Where is your hospital?

    I was happy when I saw mine went from 39% in 2009 to 34% in 2010.

    Some states release this info through their department of health.  The Unnecesarean has been compiling data so you can check there.  Local people who are into birth advocacy like doulas and childbirth educators might know too.
