I personallly don't really like unisex names. However my DH is competely in love with the name Jordan for a boy, he's a huge Michael jordan fan so that's where it's coming from, but either way he LOVES the name. I was dead set against it because its become a popular girl's name, but now I'm not sure.
What do you think of unisex names?
Re: Opinions on unisex names?
I have a love/hate relationship with them. I think most are super cute and fun. However I will lazily admit I like the convenience of knowing right away the sex of a person someone else is talking about when they say a name. Or if I have to return a call to someone at work and all I have is a name and phone number. But thats chump change.
DH hates them. His name is Casey and he hates that it is a girls name, too. Oh and it drives him up the wall when we watch a movie and the dog's name is Casey... omg i have so much fun with that...lol
I don't like them at all. I want someone to know if it's boy / girl man / woman from the name.
I once worked for someone named Jordan and when people would call they wouldn't know whether to say he or she if they hadn't met her. My niece is Jordan and I had suggested that my SIL spell is Jordin or Jordyn to give it a more feminine feeling, but her DH was not a fan of those spellings so she's Jordan.
I agree Jordan is more of a boys name IMO, and I love Reese (okay it is my chocolate lab's name, but she is a girl, not saying it is a dogs name )

Also, Jordan reminds me of NKOTB and I don't think that will ever change.
... maybe I'm just a child of the 80s though...
If it makes you feel better I've never met a girl named Jordan but I know a few guys with the name.
Overall I'm pretty indifferent on unisex names. I doubt we'll choose one but I don't have anything against them.

I'm a big fan of if you like a name...just use it!
I know guys and girls named Jordan...but in my mind I think boy first!
I was "in love" with Jordan so it will ALWAYS be a BOYS name to me! lol
I don't like unisex names. I also don't like when people take obviously boy names and use them on a girl. My son's name is Mason...all boy to me...we met a girl named Maysen or some stupid spelling but it's still said the same. In my head I was thinking "really???" lol
I've never seen Mason as a girl's name! It's completely a boy's name to me...it actually one of the top on our list right now! I love it!

I HATE unisex names. And I am using the word HATE here. Maybe it's because my name is Randi and it is a unisex name. I hate that when people call for me, they ask for Mr. Randi.
When I worked in customer service I had a member call in and this was our conversation:
Me: Thanks for calling, this is Randi how can I help you?
Lady: Randi? That's a boys name
Me: Well I can assure you I am female, how can I help you today?
Lady: Randi, umph, how do you spell that?
Me: R-A-N-D-I, is there something I can help you with today?
Lady: Randi...that's a boys name
Me: Can I help you today or not?
I HATE unisex names.
We seem to have a unisex theme in our family going...for the females anyway...just nicknames. I'm an Andie (Andrea), my Mom is a Bobbie (Barbara), my MIL is a Pat (Patricia), my step-daughter is a Devin, and if we have a girl...she will be an Alex (Alexandrea). Growing up I hated it...I was teased all the time. I can't wait to put my daughter through the same torment. Ha! I think Jordan is 50/50 girl/boy.
I have SO had this conversation! My name is Erin, and even spelled the feminine way, I get "isn't that a boy's name?" all the time. Didn't stop my daughter from choosing Everleigh for a girl, but I guess that name is unusual enough that you can't even really call it unisex.
I guess I'm in the minority here about 'unisex' names... I was/still am in LOVE with the name Elliot for a girl... call it my total affinity for Scrubs and crazy arsed 'Barbie'. I also used to watch a show (long time ago) called Sisters and the sisters all had boy nicknames... Alex=Alexandria, Frankie=Francesca, Georgie= Georgia and Teddy=Theodora...
I'd love something like that but not sure what we'll end up with.

I don't mind them at all and to be honest with most of them they lean one way.
So funny because a girl I went to highschool with, her name is Michael
I think people all over are using names to go with either boy or girl. I know a girl who just named her DD Elliot.
I'm actually kind of mad at parents that take names like Jordan...(which screams BOY to me) and make them girl names. Almost all the boy names we like have recently become unisex names. It makes me mad, bc I don't see them as girl names at all. I hear them as girl names, and think..."why would those parents give their girl a boy name?"
But then I love girly names for girls.

The thing is, these are just nicknames. If my name was say, Amanda or Miranda and my nickname was Randi, that would be TOTALLY different. Because then if I got tired of Randi, I could change it. But I am stuck with Randi. AND I don't get a nickname. Lose-Lose.

To me neither are unisex...Sydney to me is totally girl and Blake to me is totally boy. Maybe it's just bc the only Sydneys I have known are girls and the only Blakes have been boys.
