I was lurking and saw your DS has c.diff. Is he a baby? I have had c.diff for a very long time (I caught it in the hospital after getting a blood transfusion and antibiotics). It came back 1 week after I stopped vancomycin so I'm back on it (its been 15 weeks so far). Anyway, I ask if your son is a baby b/c the drs told us I couldn't give c.diff to Marino b/c babies already carry the bacteria in their intestines. I am still very careful (obsessive handwasher) but I've not know of a baby to have it. Can you tell me your story, please?
Thanks so much.
Re: ***funday***
I'm sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you! Yes, all babies do have small trace amounts of c-diff in their system from what I understand. My son just turned 1 this weekend.
My son did not exhibit any particular signs of having the c-diff which is why I was so surprised he had it. He had mucoucy stools (but that is also extremely common with food allergies, so no surprises there). We have been on flagyl for 3 weeks now, but I'm not certain it is gone yet. We are take a test time off of the antibiotic for now and will look for returning symptoms...
It's so hard, isn't it? I'm a positive person by nature, but this whole c-diff thing threw me for a loop!
I think all doctors have different opinions, so take their information and form an informed decision for yourself using their input and your MOMMIES INTUITION!
How are you doing btw?
