  • I wouldn't let DD use that doll. I don't even like it when she makes her barbies kiss. I do agree it's just rushing girls to grow up faster. This is just as bad as those bratz dolls.

  • I don't know that I'd get it for my kid, but I dont' really see a problem with it.  When I was little, I used to 'breast feed' my stuffed animals--one side was milk, the other OJ Stick out tongue.  I think I was just emulating my mom, who was BFing my younger siblings.

I agree, my daughter pretended to breast feed her stuffed animals while I was breast feeding her brother. I think it's a normal part of trying to be like mom. Now I don't think I'd buy the doll.

  • Although it's nice to see that breast feeding is becoming more and more accepted, I would not get that for my daughter. It's just too sexual for little girls, especially the halter top thing, wtf?!
  •   I used to breastfeed my baby dolls when I was little because I saw my mom doing it. I'm a big BFing freak now (not that the BFing my baby dolls had anything to do with it other than my mom setting a good example). The other day we were at... the children's museum and my mom was trying to show my son how to feed a baby with a bottle and I said "actually, Mommy feeds her babies with her boobies" and lifted up his shirt so he could feed the baby. I think its perfectly healthy for him to imitate parenting that my husband and I do and I want him to understand that I'm feeding the baby when I bring the newbie to the breast.    I think this is so tame in comparison to so many other things out there available to young girls. Have you seen Barbies... clothing lately? I wouldn't buy my daughter a Barbie with the "clothing" they have on now. I tried to get one for my neice recently and then refused because there wasn't one appropriate outfit. I don't want my neice to idolize some chick with crazy proportions, and overly sexy clothes. Also, the clothing for kids these days is downright questionable. Call me a prude but I don't think that string bikinis are appropriate for girls that are still playing with dolls. I think both of those things, among many, many other things, are messing with young girls today and teaching them to grow up way too soon. A doll teaching kids the natural way to feed babies is not going to ruin them   And I really hope this isn't coming off crazy BFing lady or "your kid will die if you feed it formula" I just get a little offended when I see people so offended by this doll. This is the same anti-bfing undertone that is making it hard f...or people to nurse in public or even hard to get into bfing because they see it as this total hippy thing or this thing that isn't normal. It is normal and it is natural so why not teach our kids that this is how you feed a baby.

  • I fail to see how giving a little girl a doll she can nurse is "oversexualizing" her but putting her in a bikini is not...

I don't see breastfeeding as sexual at all. In fact, I think it may help "de-sexualize" breasts by showing girls that they are for something other than oogling (if that is a word).  Maybe I'm odd, but I don't have a problem with this doll at all.

  • Wow. Its pretty creeptastic at first, but the sell a zillion doll with bottles, so really, its sort of the same thing. I would not buy that doll though.

Yea. I think the halter top makes it a bit over the top, but the idea is great.

    I agree.

    My thoughts:

    - My DD remembers the fact that she nursed, and is surrounded by nursing/pumping moms. She loves to play with my pump parts and prepare bottles for her baby dolls. She also pretends to nurse her babies.  No special halter needed.

For those that think it is 'wrong' to breastfeed a doll - what do you propose I do? Tell DD that she isn't allowed to nurse?  Play is how kids explore their worlds.

I wouldn't waste my money on a special nursing baby, but I don't understand how someone could think that it is inappropriate.  For those that are bothered by it, what exactly bothers you?  Is it the corny flower nipples or is it just the fact that they are promoting breastfeeding?  (I don't understand the sexualization argument since breastfeeding isn't a sexual act)

    - I am more disturbed by toy guns than a breastfeeding doll.

  • My immediate impression is WTF, but I think that most of that is just a bias based on our social norms. With some real thought, that's probably not a bad idea. I would definitely think on it for a while before being willing to buy such a thing though.
  • I don't have a problem with the concept of kids "breast feeding" their dolls, they are just imitating mom. I remember doing it and I've seen several of my nieces do it.  However, I'm not sure a specific doll was necessary. Seems like a waste of money to me, and honestly, the little flower pasties kind of creep me out. It's not as weird as I was afraid it was going to be though. I had the "manary gland" from Meet the Fockers in my head at first, Lol.
