For DS I got pretty much all his clothes given to me either at my shower or by friends and family before he was born. I've still only bought maybe two or three articles of clothing for him and he's almost 15 months old. I know I've been very blessed!
But I'm not having a shower for this baby and she's a girl, so I have to get new clothes (DH says we should just have her wear all DS's clothes, but I'd rather not explain to people she's a girl all the time
). I've picked out some of the gender neutral stuff of DS's and it's mostly newborn and 0-3 month sleepers and onsies.
So my question is, would you try to buy a few things in each size now or just wait until you need something? I just feel like a newb because I can't even think of how many of what size she'll need and what kinds of clothes
.
Re: feel like i've already forgotten what babies need...
I would wait.
We received a ton of hand-me-downs for DD. So far, the only thing we had to buy were a few more short sleeved onesies in her size. But we're just buying as we need.
I totally regret the amount of money we spent on DS' clothes when he was little. It was insane. He didn't get to wear half of it because of how fast they grow.
I had the same exact situation.
However, after DD was born we got a TON of clothes. Both from gifts from friends/family and from hand me downs from moms who had girls.
I would wait. Plus, you never know what size she'll need at certain stages as all babies grow at their own rate.
I know this doesn't really answer your question, but for what it's worth, no matter what your DD is wearing, people will assume she's a boy, even with a big fat in-your-face flower on her head. At least that was my experience with DD. So, with that being said, I probably wouldn't bother buying new clothes, especially since you're going from boy to girl, not girl to boy.
