am I the only one? she is STTN (9-7) and I don't want to ruin a good thing but I also want her to learn to soothe herself so I'm thinking of starting to wean her off of the swaddle. Advise? How long are you swaddling your LO?
We are still swaddling at 5.5 months. However, he rolls in his swaddle so I keep him in his RNP next to my bed and he is almost too big for it. I think it may be time to un-swaddle, but I'm waiting for the weekend. He sleeps pretty soundly on his stomach (I discovered this this morning) so I'm going to try getting him to sleep on his tummy in his crib. Good luck!
I still swaddle for 1 nap (her long one 2-3 hours) and at night. We tried the sleep slack for her nap and she just isn't ready for it, she would wake herself up after 15-20 minutes.
No I stopped when it was starting to get really warm outside. He transitioned really quickly. He does STTN we usually get 6-8 hours out of him. My son is 3.5 months old and we stopped about a month ago. Now that is so hot I am happy we got him to sleep without being swaddled because we don't have air so he would be way too hot swaddled. You could start with not swaddling him during naps.
My little one is still taking all her naps swaddled and is swaddled at night. I would love to get her out of the swaddle but all my attempts so far have failed. She'll occasionally take a nap unswaddled but its usually much shorter than what it would normally be. I actually just decided this week that on August 1st I'm going to start trying a little harder to see if she can do it. We're about to go on vacation so I don't want to work at it for no reason lol.
We're still swaddling at almost 4 months, but I think he's getting too big for it. He's 17.5 lbs/in the 99th percentile for weight...so the blanket doesn't really wrap too far! He seems to like it though, and will fall right asleep once he's wrapped up.
We are still swaddling; DS will be 4 months tomorrow. He still startles easily so without the swaddle he is always waking himself up. We use the Swaddle Me...he outgrew the regular size so I just bought a few of the large size online and they are working great. I'm in no rush to stop swaddling...I figure I'll do it as long as it works and he likes it. Unless we're still doing it when he's 5...
I still swaddle my DD and she'll be 6 months next Thursday. We finally got out of swaddling for naps. Now I just swaddle her from the chest down with arms out for naps. At night we have to do the escape proof swaddle with the swaddle blanket. Sometimes she's fussy and won't go down with her arms swaddled. But then she doesn't sleep very long.
Try the guardian sleeper. My son is 4 months old and still moves around a lot if we just leave him in his crib without anything. This was a good transition because he can move his arms and suck on his fingers to help himself get to sleep, but it doesn't let him move around enough to wake himself up.
She's still swaddled here too (not just for bed but naps too)!!! I've tried to transition her out, but am so unsuccessful. She's too active without the swaddle and wakes herself up too soon and then is miserable!
Here's some things I've done to help ease away from the swaddle:
1. I purchased a "Woombie", which I HIGHLY recommend! It's made of a some-what stretchy material so she can still some and wiggle a little bit, but has restrictions (like being in the womb). It's a good transition from a "straight-jacket" type swaddle to something that gives her a little more freedom and doesn't impeded her motor development. It's quick and easy just zip her up...she actually smiles when I put her in it, she totally gets the 'cue'.
2. The "Woombie" I got was the convertible kind which has arm holes that can snap closed. During naps I'm trying to leave one (or both) arms out while the rest of her is snug inside. This is convenient because when she is finally unswaddled, it can become a sleep-sack and isn't just tossed aside.
3. I figure as she gets older and has better control over her limbs she will need the swaddle less and less. I'm watching her development to see when the time's right for her. In the meantime...DO WHAT WORKS FOR YOU no matter what "the books" and others say.
Good Luck!

LO is 6 months old and a big baby and we are still swaddling and I have no plans on stopping any time soon. He loves it and the nights are going really well. We have central air so the heat doesn't concern me. Love the swaddle!
I just wanted to let you know I just talked to my nanny and she told me A just took an almost TWO HOUR NAP unswaddled, on his tummy. You may give stomach sleeping a try, if you're comfortable with it.

Hmmm thanks for posting this, I might have to try it! I've used the Woombie, Magic Sleepsuit, and True Womb all in the effort to wean him out of his Miracle Blanket. He keeps himself up by sucking on his hands but I wonder if part of it is because his legs move uncontrollably too. As you can see, I'm willing to try anything so this looks like my next purchase! :-p
