The houseguest saga continues...

DH took today off to spend with his family, the two lazy teenage girls (I sound like an old crab!) slept until almost noon and would not get up. So much for him wasting a day off. He was going to take them to a local water park, the girls asked him if there was an elevator to the slides and stuff...Indifferent

This brings me to my story from the other day. DH was traveling overnight for work so I was home alone with them. They decide they are going to where I think is the park around the corner. I get a call from DH saying that they are at the supermarket (about 1 1/2 miles from the house) and the girls are crying they don't want to walk back (lazy but it was 90 deg.). SIL wants him to call me to come get the girls, not my 70 yr old MIL, the TEENAGERS. I should mention there is a language barrier btw them and myself. MIL tells DH don't do it. They decide to walk to McD's and rest. After about a 1/2 hr back and forth with DH it's getting later and darker. I decide I cannot worry about their lazy a$$es anymore. I go to get them at McD's and they are standing in the middle of the parking lot, off a major road in my town, like a bunch of idiots!

Oh, and the younger one still hasn't come down from their room (except for bathroom breaks) because of the dog it's been almost 2 weeks.

I almost feel like this isn't really happening...someone pinch me. It's crazy/funny.

  • I had no idea what in the world you were talking about so I went back and read your post. Obviously, there is a huge cultural difference between you and your husband's family. Keep in mind that is where your husband comes from and that's his blood. It's obvious that you don't understand these people or their culture (why they have maids, why they don't shower daily, kiss your baby on the face ) so instead of being so critical keep an open mind and positive attitude and this will be much more pleasant for everyone. Just imagine what your experience would be like if you had to go to their country and didn't speak the language. Oh, and by the way, the ingredients, style of cooking and etc. is so different in the U.S. that it does take a bit to get used to. Lighten up.

My husband feels the same way I do so it's not totally cultural. It's more of the fact that you should have manners when you stay at someone's house. I am not trying to be a b!tch either. Geez you lighten up! I'm trying to make light of a subject.

  • I had to do the same and read up on Previous post. :)

Ugh, Like I tell my mom "There needs to be a respect boundary." When my SO's family comes to visit I have to leave and do my own thing. They are Cuban different Culture and Lifestyle from mine. They use my babies stuff without asking, talk loud no matter what time of day/night it is, and Don't watch there children!!! It drives me nuts. They are coming this weekend.Crying ugh something I am not looking foward to. I don't mind them using my DS stuff (for their 9 month DS), but they need to ask!!! Its a respect thing. If they don't ask it bothers me, and if they do well I could care less as long as they take care of what they are using. There DD who is 3 decided to leave me some art work on the pages of DS DR. Seuss books. :( I was very upset but didnt say anything because they will just spank there child for it. and Its really not her fault it's the parents fault for not watching her. I cant handle a Weekend and can't imagine 20 days! Well GL! and Stay strong! Soon enough they will be back over seas! Smile

  • no matter what culture someone is, acting like a spoiled brat because you walked somewhere and are too tired to walk back (when you're physically capable of doing so) is no excuse! Also, the child who won't come downstairs because of your dog is a little silly as well.  I understand being initially afraid, but someone has to help this child realize your dog means no harm!  How they are letting him spend his visit locked in a room is beyond me.

This saga is kind of entertaining to me... please keep sharing. This is the best place to vent!

I don't think she needs to lighten up. Her husband needs to help her more since it's HIS family who is visiting. Amy has a baby and isn't these girls maid!!

HAHA thanks for defending me and finding my reality somewhat entertaining. I really was trying to be funny and wasn't trying to offend anyone. I am a terrible writer but I really can be funny at least I think I am...as we know when you write something the tone of what you write doesn't always come across properly.

On a side note...I have no stories for today...yet! HA!
