Success after IF

s/o heat...would you take a 6-month old out on boat in 95 degree weather?

eta: and I mean out all day

Because I wouldn't, but I wonder if I'm being a stick in the mud (very possible, since I tend to be very cautious/conservative with my kids).

  • A boat with shade, maybe... but just because the water and possible lake breeze would provide cooling.

But if you couldn't swim or there was limited shade HELL no!

I was at a Farmer's Market Sunday in the HOT bright sun.  Amelia (just over 1) turned beat red in under 30 mins outside.  It was just too hot!

And now I'm ashamed I posted this because I try really hard not to judge other parents.

I try, but fail miserably at not judging... oh well! ;)

  • No.  I don't even take my boys to the pool this summer.  it is too hot.  If Paige wants to go, I either get a sitter for the boys, or have DH take her if it is a weekend.

  • No.  It's not just the heat, but also the sun exposure.  On the water it's going to be reflected all over and it will be so hard to keep her protected.

Plus I would have her in a life jacket the whole time, which would make it doubly hot.  : (

This exactly. My kids couldn't handle the heat last summer at all and turned into cranky, hot messes. Plus the lifejacket thing and they would just be miserable.

  • No! I've been out on a boat in that kind of heat and it can be sweltering and there is no escape from the heat. Granted it was a sail boat with little/no shade on a day where there was little/no breeze, but still.
