EP -ers... Do you have a manual Pump as well?

I was wondering how many ep-ers have manual pumps to keep in the diaper bag or something for while they're out and about? I'm planning to start pumping half the time next week so that DH can feed LO a few times a day and I have a PISA though I wondered if it makes sense to have a back up manual pump in the diaper bag for quick on the go feedings and I can't really NIP... Thoughts?

Re: EP -ers... Do you have a manual Pump as well?

  • I EPed for 13 months with DS1 with just my PISA.  Pretty much brought it everywhere with me.  Definitely recommend getting the car adapter and battery pack if you haven't already.

I didn't use a manual pump until I thought I had completely weaned myself off the pump (we were out of town and did not bring the PISA and I became slighly engorged) I pumped a couple ounces with the manual.

I would get a manual as a backup but would not rely on it to pump bottles while out and about.  It will not empty your breasts as well which will eventually lead to low supply.

I have both a battery pack and adapter but I was thinking about just getting the manual as a back up for the rare occasion I need to pump and didn't bring the PISA or something!
  • I don't respond to a manual pump at all, so i got rid of mine. I got a 2nd PISA for work/backup

I agree with what PP said.  Get one as a backup, but plan on using your electric pump daily.  I used my manual once when I didn't want to carry around my pump to an event and just using it that one time was not easy.
