XP: Enfamil AR

We went to DS's 2 month appt on Tuesday, and mentioned that he was showing signs of reflux. He had been spitting up a lot, would cry during his bottle (Enfamil Gentlease) and always seemed fussy and uncomfortable when he was awake. They suggested that we try Enfamil AR for a few days and see if that helped. They said the next step would be to go back to the Gentlease and thicken it with cereal and next try medicine. We switched to AR on Tuesday afternoon, and he seemed to really improve. He wasn't fussy all the time and didn't spit up at all. Now, his last two bottles today he has spit up a good amount. Has anybody had experience with this? He still isn't as fussy as he used to be, but more than he was Wednesday and Thursday. Thanks!

  • We put Isaiah on AR after trying Gentlease. He would spit up CONSTANTLY with Gentlease and would constantly cry. AR has really helped his spit up. There are days that he spits more than others, but occassional spit is normal. He spits up about twice a day with the AR as opposed to after every feeding, during feedings, and even randomly with the Gentlease. I lvoe the AR formula for him. He seems much happier on it. Do you make it and let it sit for 5 minutes like the directions say to? I've noticed if we are in a hurry or something beacuse he's screaming his head off and don't let it sit, he spits afterwards.

    HTH!

The Enfamil AR is just regular enfamil with rice starch mixed in. It is essentially the same as adding cereal. However, if reflux is the real issue, no formula will cure that. Does your LO seem to be in pain at all, or is spitting up the only issue?

Both of my girls have reflux, which they are medicated for (Zantac 2x a day) and I also add cereal to their bottles. The combo of the meds and the cereal has helped a lot. The reflux caused them a lot of pain, which is why I chose to medicate them.
