  • You can still get pg even if you don't have a period.  I was still nursing when we started ttc, and even though I had started menstrating again it was really erratic (4 weeks, then 7 weeks, then 6 weeks between periods even on the pill).  Prior to DD I was like clockwork, so this was unusual for me.

After we started ttc, I just pg testing every 4 weeks.  After 4 months we were pg!  However, because of my wacky cycles they did an early US to establish fetal age.

DD weaned herself at 22 months when I was about 23 weeks along.

  • Like pp said, you can get pregnant before your first period, but it is hard to try when you don't know when you might be ovulating.  At 14 months I cut DS back to nursing only 3x per day, I got my first period at 14.5 months, so it might have already been on its way.  Since then he cut himself back to (usually) 2x/day which is still working well for us at 19 months and 6 weeks pregnant  :)

I didn't have my period, and still got pregnant when DS1 was 22 months (I'm a freak). He was only nursing 2-3 sessions over a 24 hour period, and he wasn't nursing at night at all (we stopped that around 20 months). I was actually waiting for my period to return when I got pg.

I tested on a lark, so I'm no help there. Is your son nursing at night? Those might be the sessions to cut out first, bc ovulation suppression is a bit more related to nursing at night. I would say just start TTC, and maybe drop one session at the same time. It really just depends on how sensitive your body is to nursing, but sadly you can't really tell until you try.

    Good luck!
