Those on Meds, Rx from OB/Gyn or other doc?

I was Dx with PPD at my 6 week PP visit.  I declined meds at the time.  I have been resisting calling the doc - I really feel like I need some kind of meds to deal with my PPD.

Do I call the OB/Gyn?  Or, do I contact a different type of doc.

I know my health is my responsibility, but I find it weird that my OB never even reached out to me after I was Dx.

thanks

You could call either but if you call your OB he/she will most likely call it in for you w/o having see you again.  If you go to your regular doc they may want  you to come in first. GL

I called my OB at first, but he referred me to a therapist and/or a phsyc.  I see both now and my phsyc. calls in my meds.  My OB still makes apts. for me to check on me, but he doesn't give me meds.

I get my meds from my OB. My insurance doesnt cover a psychiatrist.

I'd think your OB would be the place to start since they are the ones that originalyl diagnosed you with PPD.

I got mine from my primary care doctor rather than my OB.

I see by OB for my ppd. I also wanted to wait for a Rx, and then regretted not going on it sooner. My nurse practitioner followed up with phone call several times as well. And I had to go back in for a re-check after 1 month and will go back at 6 months too.

I also see a therapist and that has helped immensely.  Good luck to you!

Oh, my therapist also told me that she usually doesn't recommend medication as a first line of treatment for depression except in the case of postpartum depression.

Your OB dx you and you denied treatment. I think that's as much reaching out as I would get from my OBs office. I had pre-existing anxiety from before pregnancy, so when the feelings came back I got in touch with my psychiatrist and made an appointment. I feel more comfortable getting psychotropic medication prescriptions from a specialist because I work in mental health and know how little training some doctors receive in psychiatric medications. I would recommend calling your insurance company and getting a list of psychiatrists that are in-network. GL!
