Going on 5 weeks in sposies. Obviously I want to be back in cloth but more than that I want the rash gone because at times it bleeds and he screamsat diaper changes. At times it looks like yeast, and those patches I put nystatin or lotrimin and then those patches clear up. But then near his rectum gets fire red anf raw and the skin peels away and sometimes it bleeds. Dr prescribed some cream that is used on burns which seems to help but that is short lived. Then we repeat. Its not an issue with the diapers since we are using sposies. Could he have developed an allergy now at 9 months? Today he pooped green jelly like grossness, so glad I didn't have to spray that out of my CDs! Anyone have any ideas? Sorry for lack of formatting, I am on my phone.

Re: SCDR: I'm desperate for help with this rash.
It could be a food allergy.
Is your babe old enough to eat some yoghurt? I remember reading somewhere that the good bacteria in yoghurt helps with yeast (as does eradicating all other forms of yeast from his diet or anything that converts - stick to veggies and meat for a bit as well and see if that helps.)
Surely after 5 weeks of the doctor thinking it's yeast, they have something else to help you with? Something new prescribed or something?
It does sound like it could be a food allergy. I know the slimy bright green poop can be a dairy intolerance in BF babies.
If he can't have yogurt you can get a probiotic powder and give him a little on your finger. But I would eliminate some common culprits from his diet and see if he gets better.
Did he start any new foods 5 weeks ago?
Nystatin is wonderful stuff. At work we use Lantiseptic barrier cream to help clear up skin breakdown quickly w/o having to use a prescription medication. Is there any way that you can leave his backside open to air while he's napping?
I hope you can get it cleared up soon!
Sounds like a digestive issue. Poor baby. Acidic poop can create a really bad diaper rash
I would cut out the usual suspects - dairy, soy, egg, etc.
Ditto others that it could be acidic foods. Also, we took my DS to see an allergist because he was pooping (TMI) mucusy with occasional blood. The allergist said that baby immune systems are still developing, so even though he passed a scratch test against common allergens (at 4 months old) that doesn't mean he's not allergic. We're supposed to go back around the 1 year mark for him to get retested.
In the meantime, it's definitely possible for him to have a food sensitivity rather than an allergy (sensitivities are caused by the digestive tract being immature and "leaky;" the food molecules that leak through cause immune reactions). DS doesn't have a terrible reaction, but when he reacts against something he does get a distinct red ring around his anus. So far CJ's and air time (and avoiding the food trigger) have cleared it up. He does not have regular rashes anywhere else.
Is there any history of food allergy or sensitivity in your or your DH's family? There's a strong history in ours (I was allergic to dairy and gluten, DH was allergic to eggs, and multiple other people in my family had food allergies as infants). That's actually one of the reasons why I had him tested. If you don't have a family history, then I think it's less likely to be the reason. It might be worth keeping track of what he's eating for a while, though, and seeing if his diet (or yours, if you're breastfeeding) correlates to these episodes.
Ugh! I'm sorry you and your LO are going through this. We fought a terrible rash for over 2 months also. Sounds very similar... yeast and then just skin break down from too much pooping. We tried everything (nystatin, bactroban, triple paste, butt paste, aquaphor, sposies, cloth with liners, natural fibers, stay dry inners, cetafil, etc). Some things would look like they were going to work for a couple days and then it would be back in full force again.
Finally, our pedi gave us some samples of calmoseptine (I think you have to get it through a script) and it cleared up completely! It's really thick and just proctects the skin from all the acidic poo. We also gave her lots of naked time, started using prefolds/fitted without a cover when we could at home, and make sure to change her every 1.5-2 hours no matter what. I have no idea what's in the calmoseptine, but at this point I don't even care, as long as it works because DD was so uncomfortable and I could tell it was really painful at every diaper change. Maybe you could ask your pedi about it?
I really hope your LO gets some relief soon. I know how terrible and frustrating it can be to deal with such a persistant problem. Good luck!
