Baby Names

Axel as a MN

So, we've 100% decided on David for our baby's first name.  Now, we're going back and forth on middle names.  The one name that we both agree that we love is Axel.  DH thinks it sounds cool.  I don't know why I love it so much, but I do.

I'm tempted to use it as a middle name, but I'm worried that it will sound too out there or trendy.  I would never use it as a first name, but at the same time, I just can't put it back on the shelf.

So, what do you think of Axel as a middle name?  If you think it sucks, do you have any other suggestions for uncommon, but not made-up middle names, preferably 1-syllable?  If it helps, our last name begins with a D and rhymes with Montana.  Thanks in advance!

  • I'm a big proponent for different middle names...it's really where the reigns get loosened a little, and it's a perfec spot for guilty pleasures.

  • Love it! My DS's MN is Maximas.  DH picked it because he said "Chicks will dig it some day." lol.

If you both love it, go for it.  The mn is where you can get creative without worrying about strapping your kid with a weird or trendy name.

    LMBO!! This is awesome.

To the OP. Totally go for it if you and DH love it. DS's mn is Danger so I'm obviously all for having fun with the mn. DH's cousin had a baby last year and his mn is Ace which I think is pretty cool too.

I had Axel on our name list, possibly mn, but then a friend used it for his dog so I sadly nixed it.

  • I think Axel makes the name edgy and cool.  I like it.
  • Our friends named their son Axel Dean... So I say if you like it, go for it!

Love it! I'm all for crazy, badass middle names. If he grows up and goes into something conservative, he can always be David A. Lastname. It's a no-lose situation!

  • My mind automatically goes to "Beverly Hills Cop", which makes it cheesy to me.  However, if it doesn't have such a negative connotation for both of you and you both love it, I don't think there's really any harm.

Oh, that's awesome!  We had Danger on our list for a middle name, but then the kid's name would be bombarded with Ds.

I like Ace, but my husband thinks of Ace Freely, then asks if we can use Gene, which I don't like.

My neighbor had a dog named Axle (spelled this way) growing up, but somehow that hasn't tainted it for me.  Maybe it's fate!
