Bedsharing but have a nap/bedtime dilemna

I love you ladies and I know all I post about is sleep issues but I need some advice and you guys rock.

Anyway, DD is now bedsharing in our bed which we put on the floor. It briefly worked to get her to fall asleep on my bed and then put her in her crib.

Now if I move her she flips out, cries hysterically, stands up in her crib and throws up in a few minutes.

UGH.

My biggest problem is getting her to sleep and stay asleep as it is.

I SAH and I can't leave her in our bed for naps and before we go to bed because she can crawl and get away..scary!

So what do you guys do if you bedshare and your LO refuses to nap in a crib.

Currently? I put her down in our bed and stay in our room while she naps and DH stays with her before we go to bed.

Ugh...help!

  • Have you considered putting a mattress on the floor, getting her to sleep, and then rolling away from her and going about your business? That way she's got a 6" drop to the floor and you can regain some freedom. It will mean completely babyproofing the room she's in though, and possibly gating the doorway.

Thanks, I didn't think of that variation. I could try it, her crib is in her room and matress would work fine. Maybe I could try it for naps since her room is more baby proofed than ours is.  I'm inspired thanks!

  • we had a full size mattress set up in the "play room" which is now Ls big boy room. It was totally baby proof, a gate at the door and I could settle him in there and there and then get up and know he was safe.

I am a shift worker so it is also handy if I need to nap and he isn't in the mood to sleep. I lock us in the room and rest my eyes while he plays etc some days (only if I worked or am working that night obviously!).

I did put a toddler rail on one side of the bed just to be safe. Some nights he actually sleeps most of the night in there on his own, other nights he's with us or one of us is with him

Are you sure you aren't writing this about my DD? ;)

We bedshare and there is absolutely no way that I can lay her down in a crib because she will freak out.  I wear her to sleep then lay her down in our bed to nap.  Usually I have to snuggle with her for a couple minutes because she cries the minute I put her down so there is no way that this would work in a crib.  I still have my mattress on the frame and have bed rails on each side.  I keep the video monitor glued to me so I don't have to worry about Parker crawling off the bed.

Do you have a video monitor? I know they are expensive but it's worth every penny with my LO.

Sorry we are in the same boat!  I haven't tried the vid monitor yet

  • When DD became mobile DH and I upgraded to a king size mattress and put it on the floor. I would just put her to sleep and sneak away. Now we're moving her to a floor bed in her room. Her room is completely childproofed and we keep the door closed, which she can't open yet. We have a baby monitor and a wireless webcam (much cheaper than video monitors) set up so we can see if she gets up although she rarely gets out of bed if she wakes, she just cries. Some nights I have to put her back to sleep once or twice. When she was younger there are times I'd just let her sleep on my lap in a recliner while I played computer games or answered emails.

  • I nurse LO to sleep on the mattress in the master bedroom. When she is asleep I just leave. We use a video monitor but if she wakes up, she won't hurt herself if she crawls off the bed. But she doesn't. She wakes up and is pretty slow to get moving. I hear or see her on the monitor and go to her right away. She just slept for 2 hours on our floor bed.
