Baby hates being carried facing me. Carrier rec's?

DD is 5 months old and has never really liked the moby much. She used to tolerate it for walks but not just around the house. She also doesn't like Daddy's Fisher Price carrier that a friend gave us. She does the best in the Hotsling so far, but those are the only 3 we've tried. She seems almost too big for the hotsling carry appropriate for her age. She's still too small for the hip carry. What carrier would you recommend for a baby who only likes to face forward? Thanks!!!

  • Maybe something that you can put her on your back so she can see out.  We did the Ergo on the back starting at around 9 or 10 months if I recall correctly but you can use a woven wrap much earlier than that.  I have no experience with wovens yet unfortunately but I've see them used with newborns in back carries before.

  • Are you sure she's too small for a hip carry? I wore my friends 3.5 month old in a hip carry last month & she napped on me for an hour. I had the rail pulled up to the back of her neck (with her arms tucked in) and she cuddled in and went to sleep.

There are a lot of good reasons not to forward face, but Beco makes a carrier that is more ergonomically preferred for forward facing than say, a Bjorn or Snuggli.

I think a mei tai would be a good compromise. You can tie the waist up higher so baby is actually over your shoulders, where an Ergo you can only buckle at your waist. Plus a mei tai is less of a learning curve for most. Check out the Becoming Mamas blog for specifics on each type of carrier, plus some videos on how to use them.

I second what KelliLynee said.  I love a mei tai for a high back carry.
