Separation B4 Divorce

Did you separate before filing for the divorce?  How long?

I know some states require it, I do not beleive MN does.  Just seems like it is a nice cooling off period before making things so final.

    We physically separated for about a month but didn't do a legal separation.  For me, there was no chance of reconciliation so I didn't waste too much time before I filed.

    We were physically separated for 5, almost 6 months before I filed for divorce. In MI there is no requirement to legally separate prior to divorce, but there's a 6 month "wait time" before a divorce w/ minor children can be finalized.

    My mother seperated for about a year (not legally). She got divorced the following summer.
