DD is sleeping a LOT

I want to preface this with the fact that I am not complaing, at all.  The sleeping is nice.  I am just also a bit concerned.

DD is 7.5 weeks old, and she was usually awake a lot during the day (maybe a couploe 30-45 minutes naps and usually one good nap for about 1.5 hours) and she would sleep 4-5 hours in a stretch at night.  Honestly, I was pretty happy with that.

However she had this crazy cranky period last week, eating a lot which stopped on Friday.  Since Friday she has been asleep way more.  Im talking 3 hours naps during the day.  Really only being awake for eating, changing and maybe 20 minutes of playing, and then down for the count for a long time.  She also has started sleeping 6 hours stretches at night, so she is put in bed at 9pm, gets up around 3am, and then up again at about 8:30, and then sleeping again until after noon.  She is still sleeping right now.

Is this a late 6 week growth spurt?  Should I just roll with it and be happy to have some time to get stuff done (though I kind of miss her)?  Should I be concerned?  Am I overthinking this? (probably)

I think you are overthinking it. My girls still sleep for long stretches (10-12 hours at night, and several 2 hour naps during the day). As long as she is eating and doesn't seem lethargic, I wouldnt worry.

  • My DS was doing the same thing for a few days and I also wondered if it was a delayed 6week growth spurt or what. Like you, I think I was just over thinking it. I also think he went thru a little spurt where he wasn't sleeping Enough during the day. I read somewhere (can't remember the link now!) that at this age they need about 8 hours of sleep during the night and another 8hours during the day.

  • Silas is doing the same. He sleeps from 1030-7ish at night, eats then sleeps for another 1-2 hours. Then he takes at least one 3hr nap during the day with other naps mixed in, which range from 45 minutes to 1.5hrs!

  • This sounds almost exactly like what DD has been doing.  For a couple of nights last week, she woke up every 3 hours or so to eat, which was really unusual for her.  But the past few nights, she's slept at 7.5 hour stretch and she's gone from taking little cat naps all day to sleeping hours at a time!  I'm just enjoying the rest.  :)
