blood blister

Emily latched on this feeding without the nipple shield, it felt like a good latch, but obviously not.  This is my first blister so I am wondering what to do about it. Do you still feed from a nip with a blood blister?  I looked on KellyMom, but didn't find info on blood blisters - only milk blisters.

Re: blood blister

  • Yay for no nipple shield! You can still nurse as long as it isn't super painful for you. Even if it bleeds a little while she is nursing, that is ok.

  • Thanks, Cassondra.  I am excited that she is getting better at it.  Hope we can EBF by the end of the month.

  • I had blood blisters during the first couple weeks and nursed through them.  As long as I remembered the lanolin after each feeding, they felt okay in between feedings.  If I forgot, they got really sore.  Eventually they sorta peeled off like a scab would.

  • Good to know!  I put lanolin on it after I was done pumping and it instantly felt better.  Why is it so hard to feed LO??

  • Yeah... "natural" doesn't mean "easy".  It's so misleading!
