So, we went to a b-day party after Ish's shower and there was cake. Someone was holding Kimo and gave him a tiny bit of frosting on his lip. I was like, hello?!! I grabbed him right away and wiped his mouth. Why do people think it's ok to do this? This is my kid and he can't eat things like that. Shhit, he's barely on solids. Am I overreacting?

Re: sigh
My dad dipped his finger in a crab casserole and stuck it in G's mouth at 4 months old. I was like WTF are you doing??
I don't think a lick of frosting is a big deal but I don't like when anyone other than the parents think it's ok to make that call - that's where I really draw the line. No the baby doesn't need sugar, but really he probably barely got enough to taste it.
Yeah, you are overreacting a bit. I personally wouldn't give frosting to a six month old, but a tiny bit won't hurt him.

yeah, it's not the amount that I was like wtf? It's more bothering me now because I don't think it's ok for others to make that call.
I get not being happy about it. I guess I thought the whole snatching Kimo away and wiping his mouth was a bit of an overreaction. I would have just politely asked the person not to feed my kid frosting. But I am very non-confrontational. After I hit post I realized my post came off as a little biitchy, it wasn't meant to be

no no...not bitchy at all. That's why I asked for opinions.
Exactly this. It's not the fact that it was frosting, it's the "you don't stick something in my kid's mouth unless I tell you it's okay" thing.
I wouldn't really be cool w/ someone I know doing it, let alone a random person.
There's the whole issue of food allergies and whathaveyou, but honestly I don't think it has to go much deeper than that's my kid and you don't do anything to her unless I give you the all clear. If that makes me nuts and overprotective, there it is. I'm okay with that.
I would have been pissed. a) there is no need for a baby to have sugar - if they don't know any better why start a bad habit so young? but more importantly b) I do not approve of random people giving my kid food without checking with me first.
ftr I'm one of those mean moms who isn't letting her kid have cake/ice cream/etc until his birthday. Whatever, I just don't find it necessary at all. There is a reason childhood obesity is out of control these days.
