i think my DS outgrew soy!!!!!!!! I looked at his results from his last test (few months ago) and his soy was the lowest (below 1).. his milk was muuuuuch higher and my allergist said you can start giving him milk/soy in baked goods as a test. I didn't feel comfortable with that b/c i knew he still has issues with milk so i never assumed soy might be ok until i looked at the results again on friday.
So i gave him a piece of whole wheat bread which has soybean oil in it -practically the only thing we have in our house that's "not" safe for him.. and i gave him a bite and watched him like a hawk - 30 seconds after he finished his bite he started freaking out for more! He had a full tantrum just to get more! so as a mom who lacks sleep and a had huge migraine that morning, i just gave him the rest of that piece of toast and he devoured it. No issues. nada. zero. he is fine! no rash. no scratching.
I had to hide the bread from him b/c he would probably eat the entire loaf. Saturday morning he woke up and said "TOAST!?" first thing. Ha.. So he had another piece of toast in the morning and another in the afternoon.
My nanny just called me that he's freaking out over something in the kitchen and she doesn't know what to do -ha -i forgot to tell her. So she takes the bread and gives him a slice and he's fine. I think my son has an obsession with this bread lol!
anyways, i'm not ready to give him soy mil or tofu just yet.. but i guess that is progress since last year he would break out like crazy over anything soy related (i gave him something with soybean last year by accident and his face / body broke out like crazy).. so it's progress.
Re: Bye bye Soy?
Awesome! That's exciting news!
Allergic to soy, oat, egg, peanuts, and tree nuts
YAY YAY YAY!
We are kind of in the same boat. My daughter is negative to soy with skin testing, but was positive with blood testing (2.0). He told us to try it. We started with the Pepperidge Farm bagels that have soybean oil and so far so good. I then found Pepperidge Farm bread and have been trying that now. Fingers crossed! I am definitely not ready to move onto full-fledged soy!
