I just got back on the knot since I'm pg again, and saw that there's a birth story board. Cool! I have mine saved on my comp, so I figured I'd share it. DD was born at 39w6d. I'm excited and not at all scared to do it again, it was a breeze! (Considering what it is for some women!)
Alexandra?s Birth Story!
I had the first contraction around 6 am on Monday morning, September 10. It hurt, I was feeling not great in general, but I?d felt the same on Saturday morning, and it went away. I headed to work, casually timing contractions during my 40-minute drive. They were every 7-10 minutes, and they all hurt. I got to work shortly before 7, and immediately logged onto contractionmaster.com. Love it! J I called DH and let him know what was going on, but I told him he should still go to work, because I wasn?t convinced this was it. He?d said all along she was coming on Monday, so he wanted me to call the midwife. I called her at 7:30, and the contractions had been every 7 minutes for an hour. She said to call back when they were every 3-5 for an hour. I toughed them out, but they were getting more intense. I didn?t want to talk. My coworkers were getting so excited! I called the midwife again shortly after 9, and she called back at about 9:30. In the meantime, I?d told DH to head to the hospital. I was finally getting convinced, this was it.
I got to admitting at about 10, and DH and the wheelchair showed up at about 10:15. We got to L&D triage and got put into a closet of a room, since they were super busy. The midwife came in around 10:30, checked me, and I was happy to hear I was 5-6 cm and 80% effaced and definitely having a baby!! (At 39 weeks I was 3 cm and 60%) We walked the halls for a little bit, and then got a birthing suite. I was on the monitor for a bit, then got in the tub. That felt great! Around 12:30 or 1 I got checked again and was 8-9 cm. At about 2:30 I was 9+, and she broke my water during a contraction. OUCH. I started pushing just a couple of minutes before 3, and Alexandra arrived screaming and pooping at 3:41! She had a little fetal distress, had to have an internal monitor, and I needed a little oxygen. But?no stitches, no drugs! Oh, and I pooped and peed on the table. Oh well! So, Miss Alexandra weighed 7 lb. 8 oz. and was 22 inches long. She scored 7 and 9 on her APGARs. She had a bit of a slow start with breastfeeding, but it was a breeze by 6 weeks.
Good luck to all waiting to deliver!
